La Habra Planning MWD Hookup Line
Construction of a line to connect with the Metropolitan Water district feeder line near Brea is planned by the city of La Habra without waiting for the Orange County Municipal Water district to annex to MWD, it was disclosed at Tuesday afternoon's meeting of the water district directors in Orange city hall.
La Habra is part of the water district, and so would be entitled to Colorado river water when the district annexed to MWD. It has obtained tentative approval of the MWD board to connect with the MWD line, providing the local water district board approves. The board gave that approval Tuesday.
La Habra informed the district directors that a large industrial concern wishes to locate in La Habra but first wants assurance of a safe water supply so is willing to pay the costs of the line connecting with MWD. The city would reimburse the firm later from tax collections.

GI from Anaheim Gets Promotion
FUJI - McNAIR TRAINING AREA, JAPAN (P)—Richard M. Baiza, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent C. Baiza, 1029 E. Santa Ana st., Anaheim, was promoted recently to the grade of corporal.
His advancement was announced by Col. James L. Richardson, commander of the 224th Infantry Regiment, a unit of California's 40th Infantry Division.
The regiment is currently camped on the slopes of scenic, snow-capped Mount Fuji, Japan's most famous landmark, where it is undergoing field maneuvers.
In addition to training, units of the 40th Division are part of a security force for the strategic island of Honshu. The 40th is the first former National Guard division to arrive overseas since World War II, and it is deployed to help fill the vacuum created by departure of American occupation troops for Korea last summer.
Before arriving in Japan, Cpl. Baiza took his basic training and some advanced problems with the 40th Division at Camp Cooke.
A recoilless rifle gunner in the 224th Regiment's Company L, Cpl. Baiza was employed by Bethlehem Steel before he was called to active duty with the 40th last September.

Authorities to Bar Border Crossing of Unescorted Youths
SAN DIEGO (P) — Reports of teenagers carousing at marijuana and drinking parties brought a shutdown today at the Mexican border between here and Tijuana.
Mexican authorities said last night the border gates have been closed to unescorted American boys and girls under 18.
The action followed complaints by civic and school officials, including the chairman of the San Diego county grand jury, who had urged their own government to close the border to juveniles.
"Some of those we are turning back," explained Moises Sanchez Aldana of the Mexican Immigration department, "are young girls who come here with sailors."
