It was the second day of the city-wide street car and bus strike, but the first day for some quarter of a million persons who don't have to go to work on Sunday. These were expected to jam downtown sections and the areas around government departments with thousands of automobiles usually left at home. To help handle these, the police department opened no-parking zones for emergency use, called off time limits in some metered areas and urged motorists to share their cars. Meantime, negotiators for Capital Transit Co., and its 3,400 employees scheduled another meeting County to Receive $2,368,000 Sum for Public Assistance Under present federal law, Orange county will get about $2,368,000 in federal funds for its public assistance programs during 1951-52, based on a projection of aid payments during 1950-51, California Taxpayers' association said today. Federal funds going toward the $472,377 aid paid in the county during April, 1951, amounted to $197,366 or 41.8 per cent of the total aid paid out. State funds amounted to $220,954 or 46.8 per cent. Statewide, California can expect about $128,000,000 in federal funds towards its $330,000,000 public assistance—aid to the needy aged, blind, dependent children, and others—during the 1951-52 fiscal year, if no further expansion is made in federal support.
