Union Evening Services Sets Religious Film
Anaheim Association of Churches will present the film, "The Two Kingdoms" Sunday at 8 p.m., in the White Temple Methodist church, 305 E. Broadway, as the first of a series of union services to continue through July and August.
"The Two Kingdoms" is a religious motion picture that is "radically different."
The film follows the Koerner family, expelled from Silesia, who face the problems of Europe's refugees—shanty or rubbish homes, crowded conditions, no jobs, inadequate diet, spiritual uncertainty. Mr. Koerner, formerly a state official, is now a nobody. No hope, but an escape into memories. No money, excepting what his daughter earns working with counterfeiters. Bitterness grows, until one day, son Willi befriends and brings home a church worker, Fred Hoffman...and the film goes right to the heart of our complex spiritual problem.
The public is invited.

"Yeh, they came in, but they landed on a ridge held by the enemy."

One story told by Lewis poses the possibility that the red regime in North Korea may have failed to eradicate completely any leaning the North Koreans may have felt toward democracy and the American way of doing things.
The enemy had been driven out of Wonsan, but the town had not yet been cleaned up. Two Marines in a jeep hit a land mine, which killed one and shattered the leg of the other.
"I immediately about 200 jabbering, jibbering Koreans gathered about the wounded man, but failed to either hurt or help him. We figured they were afraid to help him because of possible guerillas in the group."
"Later, one of the red, guerilla big shots came to Wonsan and demanded half the clothing and half the rice possesed by the local residents. Under communist rules they were obligated to honor his demands. However, they turned on the man and by the time the Marines got to him they had communists. When the Marines arrived at Wonsan, according to Lewis, they found that civilians had been tied together in groups of four, shot through the head and dumped in the harbor. In another cave near the city, hundreds of civilians had been shot and covered with gasoline, which was then ignited.
Lt. Lewis is scheduled to return to Korea in August.
Ralph Ring, local distributor of the Los Angeles Mirror and former heavyweight boxer, spoke to the Optimists about the possibility of inaugurating and maintaining an athletic program for boys and offered to teach boxing himself. He fought both in the Navy and professionally, under the ring name of Jerry McSwain.
