Double ring services were performed by the Rev. Father Michael Carlos, acting pastor of St. Mary's Catholic church in Fullerton. A tiny cap, trimmed in seed pearls, held her veil of illusion net and she carried a single orchid encased in lilies of the valley with a shower of satin ribbons and pearls. Maid of honor, Miss Shirley Steins of Long Beach; and the matron of honor, Mrs. William Durston of Van Nuys, wore identical dresses in yellow lace with peter pan collars. At the hipline the skirts fell in folds of marquette. They carried nosegays, of yellow daisies with matching flowers in their hair. Elizabeth Neuman Heads Legion Auxiliary Unit Elizabeth Neuman was elected president of Anaheim American Legion Auxiliary at a meeting of the unit Tuesday evening in the Legion clubhouse. Named to serve with her were Mabel Masterson, first vice president; Marion Ruedy, second vice; Gertrude Elliott, secretary; Helen Rommel, treasurer; Doris Doetsch, sergeant-at-arms; Jame Alice Hoag, marshall; Evelyn Schwarting, historian; Harriet Boyd, chapelain; Loma Graham, musician, and members of the board, Elvamae Jones, Nadine Knapper and Tona Kohler. Delegates to the department convention in San Diego next September are Mrs. Neuman, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Elliott, and Mrs. Lucille Johnson, retiring president. Alternates are Mrs. Schwarting, Mrs. Klapper, Mrs. Larsen, and Mrs. Reudy. County Council representatives were also elected and include Mrs. Neuman, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Boyd. Mrs. Jerry Ward is the lucky one. She won a whole case of Treesweet orange juice which was the door prize at a benefit dance held in the Santa Ana American Legion Hall the other night. She has only the year old twins, Ricky and Robin, to help her drink it this week, though, for Jerry just left on a flying business trip to Detroit. And speaking of good cooks, as we usually are in this column, Mrs. Joe Wagner is one of Anaheim's best. Under her practiced hand, even canned green beans are something special. Her secret is the addition of browned onion and bacon drippings. Mabel Campbell has a quick and easy recipe for summer refreshments. Whipped jello is the base. Mabel's Fruit Whip 1 package jello 2 cups boiling water 1 cup evaporated milk, whipped 1 cup sugar ½ teaspoon salt 1 small can crushed pineapple ½ bottle marachino cherries Graham cracker crumbs Dissolve the jello as usual in boiling water and chill until thick. Whip the jello until foamy and fold slowly into it the whipped evaporated milk. Now fold in Park Rose Garden Visited by Many On a recent Sunday, 5000 persons visited the beautiful Rose Gardens, Exposition park, to view the thousands of rose bushes now in bloom. Many of those visitors stopped to read the inscription on one of the pillars at the south entrance of the park: "As the stars are the poetry of the heaven—flowers are the poetry of the earth." Going into its 24th year of operation, the Rose Garden is a project of the Los Angeles Recreation and Park department. Open to the public 365 days of the year, the garden offers a breath-taking experience with its 145 varieties and 15,000 bushes in bloom. Most of the outstanding roses of the nation are found in the Rose Garden. Included among them are the All America champions—Mission Bells, Capistrano and San Fernando—all developed by Germain's of Los Angeles and presented to the City of Los Angeles by that firm. The beautiful rose, Los Angeles, borders both sides of the main garden walk. Also to be seen is... County Council representatives were also elected and include Mrs. Neuman, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Reudy, Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Knoch, Mrs. Boysen, and Mrs. Jones. Plans were made for a joint installation next month for the auxiliaries in the county at the Santa Ana Legion hall. A pot luck dinner preceded the business meeting. Honored guests were members who sold 50 poppies or more in the recent Poppy Day sale. Losers treated the winners. Junior Council Ruling Body Of Day Camp The chief objectives of Intermediate Day Camp held in Fullerton Hillcrest Park during the next two weeks is to give the Girl Scouts the opportunity of planning fun for camp activities, learning to express individual ideas, sharing the responsibility of executive duties, and learning to appreciate the fun of out door living. The affairs of camp are discussed each day by a girls executive board, called the junior camp council. This board represents girls from the Anaheim Girl Scout Council, and also from Northern Orange County who have been elected by their own unit members. Through the suggestion of Mrs. Dennth Main, direct-of-the council, delegates were nominated who truly represented the ideal girl scout. "Don't pick out the prettiest, cutiest, or most popular girl in your unit," she advised as she toured the park. "Select a unit member who can adequately present your camp suggestions, ideas, requests, criticisms, and pet peeves. This is your camp, for fun. As directors, we hope to give you the opportunity to democratically conduct the affairs of camp. This is not an adult camp. It is strictly for you." 1 package jello 2 cups boiling water 1 cup evaporated milk, whipped 1 cup sugar ½ teaspoon salt 1 small can crushed pineapple ½ bottle marachino cherries Graham cracker crumbs Dissolve the jello as usual in boiling water and chill until thick. Whip the jello until foamy and fold slowly into it the whipped evaporated milk. Now fold in the other ingredients and pour into a pan which has been lined with graham cracker crumbs. Sprinkle remaining crumbs on top. For lime jello use green cherries and for raspberry, the red cherries. Lindis Lum has an interesting job. She is a stenographer in the detective division of the Seattle police force. But right now she is vacationing in Anaheim, and how is this pretty miss spending her vacation? She is waiting on trade at the Chungking Oriental Gift Shop at 328 E. Center at It is owned by her uncle, Ye Lin, who operates this unique specialty shop in conjunction with the Chungking Cafe next door, famed throughout Orange County for wonderful steak and Chinese dinners. But to get back to Lindis Lum and the gift shop. Lindis loves the shop, because of its heady aroma of incense and its stock of hundreds of items imported directly from the Orient. A good example of Chinese art and handicraft, highly prized by Anaheimers is the hand carved camphor chest. Exquisitely carved and highly polished, the chest is made in several sizes, just right for m'lady's, hope chest, and very practical because the camphor wood is moth repellent. Anaheim lasses are intrigued by the collection of costume jewelry, moderately priced, yet distinctively different, and brightly colored earrings made from tiny honest-to-goodness sea horses are enjoying great popularity with the younger set. The Oriental Gift Shop is also the place to find unusual basketry, ratan furniture, rugs and table mats, Chinese figurines which blend so well with the decor of contemporary modern homes, wall hangings, pictures, brass canes... the ideal girl scout. The election of officers as president, vice president and secretary was the chief business for the 12:30 session June 20th. The girls have been given the privilege of "thinking about" which project they as a board wish to direct: editing a camp newspaper, planting a tree ceremony or making arrangements for the final campfire program. The girls from Anaheim are: Donna Ray Link, Margie Hilgenfeld, Bunny Henry, and Kap Eldred. From Northern Orange county, Christy Kohlenberger, Nancy Adkisson, Christy McReynolds, Shelia McGraw, Judy Rolle. Mrs. Ruth Bennett, 7862 E. Betty Whitfield and Marjorie Fackner teamed up to entertain their church circle last Tuesday night at Betty's house at 714 S. Claudina. Butter a shallow pan and put in a layer of cracker crumbs. Then add the sugar and egg mixture, and then a layer of pineapple and cream. Cover with crumbs and chill thoroughly.
