WHITE Gazetta Home Economist Frleda Janss, volunteer service chairman, Anaheim chapter of Red Cross, the lady who co-ordinates the splendid work which so many Anaheim homemakers are doing for that worthy organization, invited the Long Beach Council to hold its monthly meeting in our fair city recently. The council represents 11 Red Cross chapters in this southern area from Orange and Anaheim to Pasadena and Alhambra, and nicely filled the auditorium at the Ebell club house. Mrs. E. H. Kersten, chapter chairman, Mrs. C. H. Hillck, vice-chairman of volunteer services, Mrs. J Ben Kaulbars, in charge of the blood donor service and Mrs. Kathryn Wheeler, executive secretary formed a welcoming committee. The welcome they gave these visiting Red Cross workers—most of whom were volunteers, (who had rushed through household chores to arrive in Anaheim by 10 a.m.) was enhanced by the her own family and friends to fete the newcomer, and with the aid of several hilarious games soon had Marian feeling right at home. Dorothy Coley, a cook of exceptional merit, made a huge chiffon cake for the occasion. Its pink frosting was virtually the only "girl color" that appeared at the party because of the six grandchildren in the immediate family, there has yet to be a boy. Marian's mother, Ethel Farrugia, and her two sisters, Violet Dombrowski and Dorothy McCormick attended the party and the guest list also included Joan Winslow, Gene Hall, Cecil Neunaber, Norma Brummett, Margarie Schloff and Shirley Dombrowski, Marlan's niece. The Jack Bells live on South Walnut ave., and with the Dombrowskis, operate the Dixie Castle night club on 101 Highway. Faculty Fetes Retiring Head Chester Fowler, retiring principal of Thomas Jefferson school and new Fremont School head, was honored at a farewell party given by the school faculty at Imperial restaurant in Garden Grove. Later in the evening the guests adjourned to the James Schneider home on W. Vermont ave. for dancing. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davis, Mr. and Mrs. George Sala, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Whitfield, Mr. and Mrs. James Schneider, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Haugh, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose McDonald, Miss Audrey Vall, Robert Vall and Miss Gertrude Anderson. First Graders First Train Ride A tour through the Los Angeles Union Station, and a chance to buy their own tickets for a real ride on the Santa Fe Streamliner was the happy experience of 30 first grade children from the Savanna elementary school. Accompanying the youngsters on their first train ride were: Mrs. John Adams, Mrs. Charles Bonner, Mrs. Chris Clodt, Mrs. John Cooke, Mrs. George Kitchens, Mrs. Arthur Mabs, Mrs. J. E. Pruett, Margaret Nickerson, Mrs. Ronald Simonds, Mrs. Marian Trantham and Mr. Wayne L. Butterbaugh, district superintendent, and Miss Helen Magnusson, teacher. Mrs. and Mrs. Roy Jened the hostess during a volunteer with the chapter chairman, Mrs. C. H. Illck, vice-chairman of volunteer services, Mrs. J Ben Kaulbars, in charge of the blood donor service and Mrs. Kathryn Wheeler, executive secretary formed a welcoming committee. The welcome they gave these visiting Red Cross workers—most of whom were volunteers,(who had rushed through household chores to arrive in Anaheim by 10 a.m.) was enhanced by the "second breakfast" served by Mrs. M. A. Gauer's canteen committee. Ruth Hall and Helen Rommell, looking chic in crisp blue Red Cross uniforms were kept busy serving coffee and orange juice which Florence Borden supplied from the kitchen. When food is required for a Red Cross function, you will find Mrs. Gauer in the midst of things, for she is the hard working chairman of canteen. So many people have asked for the recipe for the egg dish served at the Ebell breakfast several weeks ago that we have asked Mrs. Gauer's permission to print it. As served to 150 breadfasters that morning, it took 15 dozen eggs, but cut down to family size, it goes like this: BAKED EGG SQUARES (4 servings) 4 alicee bacon 8 eggs 1 cup top milk 1 teaspoon salt Pepper Dice bacon fine and fry slowly until crisp. Drain off half the fat. Beat eggs slightly, using a fork instead of rotary beater and add milk and seasonings. Add bacon and drippings and pour into shallow grease baking dish or 9 inch glass pie plate. Bake at 350 F., for 30 minutes. Cut in squares. Garnish with parsley and serve with triangles of buttered toast. Knowing a bargain when they see it, Anaheim homemakers have been taking advantage of Mitchell's "get acquainted" offer on Desco Ware, the new porcelain cast iron cooking utensils that are the sensation of kitchen and barbecue. Imported from France, the secret of the success of this new type of cooking utensil lies in its graceful lines, attractive orangy-red color and the facts that its base of iron is especially cast for strength.
