It was built by George Hansen, a civil engineer, who selected the lot and built his home before the rest of Anaheim's new settlers arrived from San Francisco. This ornate little dwelling was used as an office during the community's development. Many of the pioneers who followed George Hansen were without the means to build their own home. Others needed a place to save their money and let it grow. To meet these two needs—savings and loans—the Savings, Loan and Building Association of Anaheim was organized. The same type of friendly, local people who first founded the company still serve the thrifty people of the Anaheim area. Here forward thinking and cooperation have made the Pioneer company grow with a reputation of fair dealing since 1889.
