Savanna Unit Starts Study in Fire Defense The council of the Savanna Civil Defense unit met Saturday at its regular bi-monthly noon conference in the clubroom of the Stanton Community church. Jay Vernon Beswick, assistant auxiliary fire chief who has been taking the official course of study for teachers to train firemen, will graduate from the 22 lessons June 4. June 11. Beswick will start a course for 25 firemen at the Savanna school at 7:30 p.m. He will be assisted by the two fire chiefs, C. H. Eastwood and Perry Halderman Forker. A strawberry festival with the block wardens as special guests will be given Friday night, June 15, at 7:30 o'clock in the Savanna auditorium. More than 100 invitations will be sent out to all members of the Savanna 3Fs. The council and staff heads will be hosts; the Rev. Charles White, Royal Marten, Paul Pletz, Mrs. Julian Black, Carl Jameson, Lewis McBratney, Adrian L. Wolfert, Herman C. Wedel, Melvin S. Huss, Frank Martinez, Mrs. Carl E. Korn, Elton C. Seek Permit for Seal Beach Poker SEAL BEACH (UP)—Three residents, one of them an owner of the Airport club, will circulate a petition for adoption of an ordinance licensing draw poker. A legal notice, signed by James J. Arnerich, Mrs. Louise White and Raymond P. Dawson, has been filed. Arnerich is an owner of the Airport club, plush draw poker palace on the Orange county-Lo Angeles county line. The Airport club is now licensed by the city but the state attorney general's office recently said that the club does not meet the requirements of current ordinances—limiting legal draw poker to non-profit groups.
