NEWSROUNDUP — Elsher Ellott, 63, prominent Orange county newspaper woman, died ... Valencia Orange harvest began. Fruit matured faster this year than last ... Paul W. Goyen, 38-year-old Dartmouth graduate, will become the superintendent of the Anaheim Elementary schools. He replaces Melbourne Gauer who will be the school's business manager. Mrs. Mary Pits and Wilbert Bonney, likewise, will be given new assignments next year ... Clarence Bellan, president of the Ellay airways, suggested that Anaheim get itself YMCA Home, Garden Tour Being Planned The Fullerton YWCA is again busy with plans for the Spring Home and Garden Tour. This event which has been so successful in the past, has become a local institution and is eagerly awaited by the community. The tour this year will be held on Saturday afternoon, June 2, from one to five o'clock. Tickets are now on sale and can be obtained from the members of the Fullerton council and the North Orange county District Board. All proceeds are used for the YWCA Youth program. Mr. John Silva and Mrs. Herbart Welch, co-chairmen of the Home and Garden Tour, have announced that two of the features of the event will be a wafer ballet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Lyttle and tea at the lovely new Golden Hills school. Homes to be shown include the Marshall H. Anderson home, the E. H. Booth, Jr., home, the H. J. Brecht home, the J. M. Nichols home and the J. E. Rutledge home in the Sunny Hills area. The S. A. Salveson home, the Charles B. Robert Van Dyke Wins Bank Award At the students' assembly Thursday at Anaheim High School Robert Van Dyke, junior, was presented the certificate of merit given annually by the California Bankers association to the outstanding Future Farmer student in the schools having such a chapter. The award was presented by Dyke by Barney Jordan, of Southern County Bank and member of the Bankers association. It is the first time in history of the school that such award has been won by a jurist. The certificate reads "Given outstanding achievement based leadership, scholarship and cultural accomplishments." Van Dyke has shown in Southern California fairs two gold champion animals, six champions 12 first place ribbon winners, two second place winners; present project includes steers, one of which has a championship at Riverside county fair and Indio Date Festival And another has been a consistent fair winner for the past two years. The event commemorated the 78th anniversary of the founding of Anaheim's second oldest church. COURTOPIX — Oglee Martin, 35, former Anaheimer, is being held on $10,000 bail and will be arraigned tomorrow in Judge Leonard Bonnat's court on a charge of assertedly slashing his estranged wife, Lou Rita Martin, with a razor ... Salvador and Lorraine Espinosa seek $50,896.08 in damages from Alfred Heying as a result of an automobile accident ... A Cypress woman—Mrs. Esther Schoenfeld—was denied damages by a jury that deliberated 44 minutes before returning its decision in favor of Eugene Kelly and Mrs. George Battle ... Only 26 deaths were registered LA COUNTY MAY GET STATE AID TO BATTLE SALT WATER INTRUSION SACRAMENTO (UP) — A $750,000 state appropriation for facilities to check intrusion of sea water into underground water of Los Angeles county's west basin was approved by an Assembly committee. The conservation planning, and public works committee sent the proposal to the Ways and Means committee. The west basin includes the cities of Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Redondo Beach, Inglewood, Hermosa Beach, Torrance, Hawthorne, Gardena, Palos Verdes Estates, and parts of Signal Hill, Long Beach, and Los Angeles. A skit from the high school operette, a skit from the Fremont fashion show by Zoe Font and Dixie Heffernan, and two pictures on civilian defense were shown to the Fremont student body at an assembly. "It Happens Every Spring" will be shown at a student body assembly, May 18. Last Wednesday the Harmonettes sang for the George Washington P-TA. Buena Park Lynx beat Monrovia, 8-0, but lost a 6-0 decision to Nerissa Began and the Orange Lionettes. Santa Ana Dons won the Eastern conference baseball crown. STATISTICS—Life went on in Anaheim in the usual pattern. There were five deaths, five births and one marriage license recorded. Mrs. Amella Hensler, 83, died in her sleep. William Hilgenfeld, 78, a cousin of Sam Hilgenfeld, 78; passed to his reward. Ben Cooper, 65, an Anaheimer for 16 years.
