Anaheim Gazette MONDAY, MAY 14, 1951 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Rise of Crime Brings Meeting Residents of the West Orange-East Garden Grove area, south of Anaheim, gathered in an informal meeting recently in righteous indignation at a recent wave of burglaries and a sex assault in this section of the rural area and with a determination to do something about it. Present at the meeting in order to assist in advising the group were Judge Franklin G. West, Sheriff James Musick, Supervisor Willard Smith and Assistant District Attorney Robert Kneeland. Discussion of sex offenses brought a decision of the group to present resolutions to meetings of two Farm Bureau Centers, which will meet in the next few days, as a means of starting a statewide action to support or develop legislation that will make more stringent laws and regulations on the subject and which will provide heavier penalties. Also tied to the program will be one of seeking preventive measures. There was also consideration of the number of burglaries which have occurred too often in the area and of possible ways to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies to prevent burglaries and to help apprehend criminals after burglaries occur. In connection with this matter, Sheriff Musick pointed out that Orange county is about 60 percent below the national average in number of burglaries per capita, but that intelligence operation with authorities could reduce even that number. He noted the residents not to become daily alarmed over frequent burglaries but to take steps to reduce the number through own precautions and thus working with officers and inmators. It was evident from express at the informal meeting held by the A. F. Schroeder home Memory Lane, that tempers risen in that portion of the territory to the point that students will be extra-sensitive any suspicious activities and deal directly with trespassers.
