Petroleum, Gas Among Southland Vital Industries
The production, refining and marketing of petroleum and natural gas constitutes one of California's most vital defense industries. California has approximately one-sixth of the Nation's oil reserves and a substantial proportion of the natural gas. Petroleum products are high on the list of the State's exports, both in volume and in value.
Oil and gas are the principal fuels used by industry in the State, and will increase in importance as defense manufacturing develops, particularly since California has no large coal deposits. Petroleum also is the basic material for thousands of products of the chemical and allied industries.
Sales of hay, grain and feed stores in California amount to more than 203 million dollars annually, according to the Census Bureau.

Anaheim C of C Organized Over 60 Years Ago
On May 2, 1895, a meeting was called at the City Hall for the purpose of forming a Chamber of Commerce in Anaheim and to elect a board of 11 directors. Mr. Fay presided as temporary chairman with L. Goldwater the temporary secretary.
The original directors were chosen as follows: Anaheim—W. J. Fay, M. L. Rogers, W. T. Brown, E. P. Fowler; Brookhurst—A. H. Cargill; Fullerton—E. K. Benchley; Buena Park — George Whitaker; Orangethorpe — Gus Hansen; Garden Grove — J. N. Bill; Placentia and Westminster to be supplied.
From this beginning the Chamber of Commerce has grown to the active group of men that it is today. E. W. Moeller is the present acting secretary and Adolf Schoepe the president.
The following prospectus about the city of Anaheim was issued by the Chamber of Commerce shortly after the turn of the year.
Anaheim’s Steady Industrial Growth a Stability Factory
IN THE PAST 10 YEARS Anaheim has had a steady industrial growth which has greatly strengthened the city's economic and social bases.
As industrial units have flowed into Southern California, Anaheim has been in the favorable position of not being the exact center of Southern California's industrial belt.
Consequently, the more selective industries have moved to Anaheim, bringing with them a new kind of stability which does not go up and down with the trends in the citrus industry.
And, in the wake of the new industries have come a large number of highly skilled employees who, as Anaheim citizens, are contributing to the effectiveness of our churches, schools and other civic groups and institutions.
Anaheim has not been troubled with industries which employ low-paid, unskilled workmen.
The type of industry which has been attracted to Anaheim helps the area on many counts:
It eases the tax burden on residents and provides a source of income to develop schools and other city facilities.
Importantly, it increases the dollar volume of "service businesses, such as restaurants, automobile sales and service retailers of clothing, groceries, furniture, appliances, lumber paint. It helps department stores, truck growers, nurses men, jewelers, and all the shops and stores up and down Anaheim streets. In short, it provides a valuable, expanding market for Anaheim sellers.
NOT ONLY HAVE INDUSTRIAL units contributed much to the wealth, stability, and home life of Anaheim, but—in return—Anaheim has much to offer manufacturers. As sets which make it worth the while for business firms to invest millions of dollars in Anaheim.
Besides its climate, beauty, cultural advantages, and good companionable folks, Anaheim offers industries a good
The smaller of the general retailers are said to average about 250 persons.
Middle-sized manufacturers employ a total of some 500. The largest manufacturer area, Kwikset Locks, employs more than 500 persons.

As a conservative estimate us about 5,000 local independent for their live-upon Anaheim citrus firms all manufacturers.
When Robertshaw-Fulton and the Daystrom Corp. began at expected top employment, the figure above may be doubled.
The entire economy of Anaheim represents a lot of buying. And...
Citrus and manufacturing produce a sizable volume of each year. Since most of the locally owned and manned since many of their pro-vehicle shipped to all parts of United States and to some countries, they add hundreds of dollars to total income of Anaheim.

The following prospectus about the city of Anaheim was issued by the Chamber of Commerce shortly after the turn of the century:
"The city of Anaheim, with a population of 2500, is situated in the northern part of Orange county, in Southern California, 12 miles from the ocean, 4½ miles from the foothills and 148½ feet above sea level. It is 27 miles from Los Angeles, the second largest city in the state of California.
"The climatic conditions are the most favorable for outdoor life to be found in Southern California. The temperature is extremely uniform, seldom rising above 90 degrees in summer or falling below 32 degrees in winter. The abundance of sunlight and the absence of sharp frosts and cold winds make it a place especially acceptable to those who desire to escape the severe climate of the East.
"The country is very attractive. It is practically level, with just sufficient slope from the hills to afford adequate drainage. The roads are level, well graded and well kept, affording excellent opportunities for cycling and driving. The soil is rich sandy loam which never bakes, making it a very easy ground to work; thus lending itself readily to the cultivation of berries, nuts, oranges, etc."
"The variety of products, and the possibility of procuring small tracts of land at low figures, and on easy terms, make our section (Continued on Col. 7)
