S. Air Force F-84E Thunder their fall surfaces as they roar through the clouds in formation during a training mission Anaheim Area Manufacturing Plants Unite to G TO KEEP PLANTS HUMMING—Local industrial groups have united in the Anaheim Area Production Group to insure that Anaheim receives its proper share of defense production orders. Talking it over, above, reading from left to right, are Adolf Schoepe, president of Kwikset Locks and president of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce; Clyde Cromer of Anaheim Truck and Transfer and chairman of the Chamber's Industrial committee; R. D. Taylor of Taylor (machine) shop and chairman of the Production Group's executive committee; and Burton T. Ellis is the group's industrial field service coordinator. BENNE SHEET METAL WORK INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURING specializing in both heavy and light industrial sheet metal manufacturing 210 WEST CHESTNUT ANAHEIM — PH. 4931 — CALIFORNIA MONDAY, MAY 7, 1921 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA L Welding and Machine Works, Taylor (machine) Shop, Citrus Reaming Equipment Corp. Evans Manufacturing Co. Benner Sheet Metal Works, Stanton Metal Products, AirRay Venetian Blind Co., Kwikset Locks, Schults Tool and Machine Manufacturing Co. Roddick Tool Co., Royer Machine Shop, Ellingson Machine Shop. Race and Olmsted Tool and Die Co., Edmistan Machine Works, Leonard Precision Products Co., and several other industrial firms have indicated sincere interest in the industrial group and will very likely join up. As an initial step in the plans of the group, Mr. Ellis has prepared a detailed plant facilities survey of the local firms which is incorporated into a brochure. The brochure will be made available to procurement offices of government and industrial units. The brochure lists such data as production equipment, products manufactured, types of customer services, skills of employees, plant layouts, engineering facilities, transportation networks, cost of orders, plant capacities, etc. From the survey a contract or procurement office can determine Anaheim's place in defense manufacturing picture. The brochure is of standard size—replacing separate brochures of varying sizes and data designed to save the time efforts of buying agencies. It is expected that the proposed of the Anaheim Area Producer Group will be keyed to the starting up of civilian production in the rise of defense orders. Consequently, Mr. Ellis, Production Group, and the Chamber of Commerce are prepared for eventualities so that Anaheim will be in the market place with defense business begins to roll. JORDAN PLANS FIRST CENTURY AMMAN (P)—Jordan plans first census which will take place next September. The county governed by colorful King dullah, recently enlarged its borders by annexing the western part of Palestine, including Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Is Unite to Get Defense Work Twenty-two local industrial firms have combined forces in an effort to insure their maximum Twenty-two local industrial firms have combined forces in an effort to insure their maximum contribution to the defense effort—by bringing to Anaheim sub-contracts or outside production work for government and prime contractors. Under the plan, the local firms (known as the Anaheim Area Production Group), have retained Burton T. Ellis as Industrial Field Service Co-ordinator. Mr. Ellis, former co-ordinating engineer for the Magnolia Trunk Sewer project, is working out the projects as a member of the staff of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce. It is Mr. Ellis' job to insure that the capacities of the Anaheim manufacturing units are known to government and industrial procurement offices so that Anaheim will receive its share of defense work. The program is designed to keep local manufacturing plants at top production and employment when the civilian production is choked off. Members now comprising the Anaheim Area Production Group are Rex Construction Co., Ernest Ganahl Lumber Co., Custom Furniture Co., Spotts Manufacturing Co., Vista Furniture Co., Williams Manufacturing. In area it is the second largest state, exceeded in size only by Texas. Its shoreline comprises over one-half of the nation's coastal boundary on the Pacific Ocean, thereby making California the principal gateway to the vast Pacific basin. Its terrain is such as to lay down definite controls for agriculture and urban development and for location of lines of transportation. Over much of its area mild climatic conditions are most favorable to year-round activities unhampered by meteorological extremes. In the western expansion of the nation, the sum total of these and other desirable features have attracted large numbers of people to the Pacific slope. One hundred and 10 years ago, California was merely the name of the last western frontier, surrounded by legendary yarns of subtropical climate, arid deserts, and snow-capped mountains. Today, a bare century since the days of those legends, California's 1950 population was second only to the state of New York. This century of growth from a handful of Indians and native Californians, plus a few dozen Americans, to ten and a half million people, is probably unprecedented for any similar area in the world. The population of this state in 1860 was less than 400,000; passed the million mark in 1890; was 3½ million by 1920; 5,677,000 by 1930; 6,907,000 by 1940, and now 10,586,000. It should be noted that the population increase of 3,678,000 during the last decade was by far the largest rise in any 10-year period; 53.3 percent over the 1940 population.
