For Little Vic, who around Brooklyn and before being shipped by it must have been satisfy bardi, who stands only seven, had been decreed for major league moundwid.
San Diego won the second 4-3, in a day which four double headers ending in cisions, except Sacramen took a pair from hapless cisco.
Nearly as inspiring bardi's performance was Sacramento's Bob Gille chucked a one-hitter and San Francisco, 9-0, in the inning opener of a night The Solons won the second 18-7.
Los Angeles lost a move into a first place Portland when the Beersuited Palm Beach.

With three Saints' smashing home runs, three Colonists' errors and catcher Ed Herrera hitting into a first inning double play with two on, the Anaheim Colonist Nine fell to the Saint colleague fells of last year, 6-2 Friday afternoon on the victor's windy diamond.
The Saint victory set up the titanic struggle tomorrow at Fullerton with the two unbeaten teams fighting for the chance to advance to the CIF playoffs beside taking over undisputed first place in the league race.
The scrappy Anaheim nine kept the pressure on the Saints inning after inning until the sixth when pitcher Val Weithorn yielded three straight hits and runs. Going into the last of the sixth the score was 3-2—Santa Ana leading.
Saint coach, Rollo Becks' squad scored first when in the second frame big Ed Fouch walked, was sacrificed to second then chucker Phil Martinez slashed a triple into left field.
The Blue and Gold countered in the third when, after two were out, George Bishop singled into center, Gayle Herbel walked and Bishop scored on Johnny Steinborn's double into center. Herbel was held up at third where he stayed as Herrera popped to Martinez.
In the third for Santa Ana lead off batter, Bob Baker hit a homer over right field; Chuck Burke popped up to Bishop then Rex Babcock hit a it's going—it's going—it's gone over left fielder, Steinborn to high light the attack.
As no one scored on three hits. Carl Hatfield singled into center, but was out on a fielders choice, being forced at second with Gonzoles safe at first, Jim Holve slashed a single into center followed by Enoch Peterson's hit—Gonzoles holding up at third. Wiethorn struck out and Bishop popped up to the Saint right fielder to end the inning.
Hatfield scored in the sixth when he singled into left, stole second and scored on Dick Gonzoles' single into left field. When Santa Ana came to bat they really batted.
Lead off slugger, Fouch, hit a double into right; Bryan hit a double into left. Fouch holding at third—the Earl Strand, center fielder, hit a home run over the left fence.
Pitcher Martinez walked, Phil Valdivia popped up for the first out, but then Bob Baker walked. Wiethorn left the game giving up six runs, seven hits for $6½ innings while striking out three and walking only four. Reliefer Dick Ramella came into strike out Burke and made Babcock ground out—Gonzoles to Herbel.
In other league games tomorrow Huntington Beach goes to Newport and Orange comes to Anaheim's La Palma park stadium for a 3:15 game. The Panthers entered the league play with an impressive practice record of 15 victories in 18 games including four straight en route to the championship of the Puente Tournament. They succumced to the no-hit pitching of Bert Haysom of Santa Ana, 2-0, in their opener, but retaliated with a 6-0 win over Huntington Beach.
Ted Herrera, who chucked a four-hitter for his losing effort against the Saints, is rested up for tomorrows encounter. Herrera

Lombardi's 'Nothing Ball' Works In PCL-LA Misses Shot at Top
By The Associated Press
Vic Lombardi, the little man with the nothing ball, may have found his niche in the Pacific Coast league. That is if one game means anything and with the Hollywood Stars it often does.
Vic demonstrated rather capably Sunday that control pitching still is a handy item to have around. He thumbed them past the potent bats of the San Diego Padres and came away with a five hit, 10-0 shutout.
For Little Vic, who kicked around Brooklyn and Pittsburgh before being shipped back west, it must have been satisfying. Lombardi, who stands only five-feet-seven, had been decreed too small for major league moundwork.
San Diego won the second game, 4-3, in a day which found all the double headers ending in split decisions, except Sacramento which took a pair from hapless San Francisco.
Nearly as inspiring as Lombardi's performance was that of Sacramento's Bob Gillespie. He chucked a one-hitter and throttled San Francisco, 9-0, in the seven inning opener of a night twin bill. The Solons won the second contest 13-7.
Los Angeles lost a chance to move into a first place tie with Portland when the Beavers assaulted Palm Beach.
Mathias, Stanford Beat Cal in Track
BERKELEY (P)—Bob Mathias, Stanford university's track champion, continues to set a gruelling pace for cinder athletes.
Olympic champion Mathias split double win honors with California's Jim Hutchinson Saturday as each man accounted for 10 points.
Gordon pasted his 12th homer in the first game and his 13th in the second to take the league lead. But Marty, who drove in seven runs with two homers, was the batting star of the Solons' second win. Between them Gordon and Marty drove in 11 runs in the second game.
All clubs are idle Monday.

Los Angeles lost a chance to move into a first place tie with Portland when the Beavers assaulted Ralph Hamner for four runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap. Portland won, 4-1, after losing the first game, 6-4. Sacramento, meanwhile, passed the Angels to take second in the standings.
Oakland beat Seattle, 5-4, in their opener on the first homer of the season by pint sized second baseman Pete Pavlick. Art Del Duca, a right hander cut adrift by San Francisco two weeks ago, paced Seattle to a 6-4 victory in the afterpiece.
The day's home run hitters were Manager Joe Gordon and Joe Marty of Sacramento; Bob Talbot, Max West, Les Peden, and Leon Brinkopf for Los Angeles; Leo Thomas
