"THE LITTLE COTTAGE," one of the Anaheim high school buildings houses foods and sewing laboratories for students of Home Economics. Above is the entrance to a large furnished apartment where girls gain practical experience in home-making. As gardening goes hand in hand with home-making in California, the students cultivate a flower garden. There are numbers of VARIETIES of AVOCADOES, but the average person is familiar with only the FUERTE. However, by planting two or three different kinds, you can have GOOD FRUIT every month of the year. There is the ED-RANOL whose fruit resembles the FUERTE and whose bearing season extends later in the spring; the summer-fruiting ANAHEIM originated in our own community;—the RYAN and HELLEN, both summer fruits; the very productive little PUEBLO; and the late summer to fall variety ELSIE, a new patented kind gaining in popularity. You are invited to come in and learn more about them and see our complete stock of TREES, priced from $3.50 up.
The welcome and unexpected RAIN has made ideal PLANTING CONDITIONS for TREES of any kind, so you will be interested in the CITRUS TREES also. It is easy to find your favorite from our group of NAVEL and VALENCIA ORANGE, LEMON, TANGERINE, GRAPEFRUIT, and the small decorative KUMQUAT TREES.

Due to loan company and government restrictions, the builders pointed out, the three-bedroom Lifetime Homes at 721 E. Chapman in Fullerton will be the last to be offered by the company with veteran financing available.
With the prospect in the future for larger down payments and the non-availability of veteran financing, the homes are selling fast, the agents report.
Both veteran and FHA financing is still available, the builders declare.

'Little Cottage' Is Home-Making Lab For Future Wives and Mothers at AUHS
By JOAN S. WHITE
"Someday, I hope to have a home of my own."
A familiar yearning, and one that is of paramount importance to a great many of Anaheim's straight thinking young folks today. Whether they plan to marry immediately upon graduation from high school (as a surprising number do) or to pursue other vocations first, these youngsters are anxious to train for the complex undertaking that modern home-making has become.
To further these interests and provide experience of the most practical nature, Anaheim high school with the aid of state funds, was set up "The Little Cottage," a practice house for home-making students.
Girls Only
So far the class has been limited to girls only, and four are assigned to the Cottage each week.
"Mother" takes charge and characteristically sees that the others are working. During the week they plan and serve several well balanced luncheons and dinners, planning their own menus, making the food purchases at local stores, serving the meals and cleaning up afterwards under the direction of Miss Neva Solt, home-making instructor.
Each day the students are graded on their choice of food stuffs, the way in which they budgeted their time, and the results of their cooking, serving and house cleaning.
Friday is general clean-up day when the refrigerator is defrosted, the closets straightened and the apartment put in good order for the "family" of the following week.
Interior Decoration
The Home Economics building is one of the oldest on the campus and the rooms of this apartment were originally designed for class rooms. It was no small task to convert to family living, but thanks to the ingenuity and skill of the students and their very capable instructor, "The Little Cottage" is as cozy and home-like and as bright and cheery as the use of paint, colorful draperies, attractive furniture and well chosen accessories will make it.
Knowing full well that most young home-makers are on a limited budget, the girls furnished the apartment on the proverbial shoe string. They made rugs from discarded wool, refinished furniture, painted pictures and made their own curtains and lampshades. With the help of a local lumber company, they even fashioned a useful wall cabinet.
Now as additional funds become available from time to time, students have a hand in choosing really good pieces of furniture, and fine china, crystal and silverware.

A vine that attracts considerable attention about this time of the year is the Wisteria. Our plantings are represented by two species, one from China and the other from Japan. The Chinese species bear flowers in racemes from six to twelve inches long and is the usual one seen. Racemos on the Japanese species are from two to four feet long, but the flowers are more widely spaced. Colors of the varieties range through white, blue, purple and pink. There is considerable variation in the quality of the varieties and actual observation is needed to see which is best for the purpose.
Grafted plants are usually more vigorous and better for home gardens. They should be set in fertile deep soil. Adequate irrigation to maintain soil moisture is important but if drainage is not good, care should be taken to avoid developing a waterlogged condition. A mulch of manure should be applied in fall and commercial fertilizer in spring.

The first thing a person who is planning a home, or any building for that matter, has to do is to acquire the property. This is a most important step. You should know what you are buying.
At the present time and especially in Southern California property is not only changing title often, but there are also many subdivisions being created and sold. The first thing a buyer should do then is to have the actual boundaries designated and described. It is generally regarded that the seller has the responsibility of having the survey made that outlines the parcel that is being sold. Especially if it is an odd shaped piece of land, the surveyor will have to figure corners and angles to establish the boundary. In the past small wooden stakes were used to mark the points, most surveyors today use a metal marker that is much more permanent. This metal marker should be used, it saves the expense of another survey at a future date, in case it seems advisable to resell.
Another important factor in investing in land for domestic purposes is to know about the location.
