Record Attendance at County Home Demonstration Day Held in Anaheim Displaying a range of skills from tailoring and cooking to unique hobbies and crafts, scores of homemakers throughout Orange county gathered at Anaheim Ebell club yesterday to exchange ideas on their various activities and programs. Registration for the morning session was conducted by Santa Ana Young Homemakers with Mrs. Jack Hirtler and Mrs. W. C. Armstrong in charge of opening ceremonies. Mrs. E. K. Burdick, regional chairman, introduced guests including Miss Lora Ward, new home advisor to Orange county. Extension work in California was discussed by Miss Lucy Allen, regional supervisor of Agricultural Extension service. An interesting report was presented by Mrs. J. G. Brittain, chairman of the county committee, who discussed the work being done in several of the more unusual classes. Included in these were the lampshade and corsage courses. She also announced the home departments will again act as hostesses at the Orange county fair. Mrs. R. D. Smiley and project leaders participated in the slack review, a demonstration of the drafting and tailoring work by homemakers in designing and creating their own slacks. Ranging from denims to wool and gabardines, the garments were drafted from original patterns, made by women themselves. "Dorabel handles checks" was a unique feature illustrating the problems encountered in working on plaid and checked materials. Dorabel, a mannequin, appeared on stage in an ill-fitting poorly designed dress of white and blue gingham, with Mrs. R. D. Smiley, off-stage, taking the role of the model. Talking with Dorabel, Marian Prentiss, county home advisor, showed her where she had made her mistakes and then showed the correct procedure with Dorabel modelling a carefully made dress of the same material.
