ROGER MACK
Mack Earns First-Class Rating
Roger Mack, 13, 1216 Pearl st., Anaheim, now rates first class among the newsboys of the Anaheim Gazette.
Announcement of Roger’s just-acquired honors was made today by Miss Lucy Hubbard, Gazette Circulation manager, following Roger’s attainment of 290 points in the newspaper’s rating system for carrier-boys.
Roger is the Gazette mailer, wrapping, stamping and mailing out-of-town papers, and as such, doesn’t have a route to take care of as is the case with the other newsboys. However, he still has to earn his points by getting out for leg-work on weekends to get new subscriptions, which bring in 25 points apiece.
Keeping up with his seventh-grade studies at Fremont Junior high school take up the bulk of Roger’s time. The rest of it that isn’t spent at the Gazette office, is spent helping his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mack, at home with yard-work (weeds at present, Roger says), dishes and that sort of thing. He’s ready for a good baseball game any time and plays any position that’s open.
Roger has a brother, Jimmy, 15, and a sister Sylvia, 18, living at home. The three young Macks and their father are natives of Wisconsin and Mrs. Mack comes from the Gopher state, Minnesota.
Roger isn’t planning too closely on what he’ll do after school days are over, but he is tentatively planning to go on to college for study in Journalism, which ties in well with his present preference in Junior High, social vision, now training in North Japan, received a special word commendation from Army Secretary Frank Pace, Jr. He was in record with Maj. Gen. Daniel Helson who said that the division was “rough, tough and ready for any eventuality.”

Another U.N. force held the high ground northeast of Yanggu, seven miles inside red Korea on the eastern tip of the huge Hwachon reservoir.
Tanks lumbered into Yanggu Sunday afternoon after breeching strong Chinese and North Korean communist defenses.
The reds massed troops and supplies there early last week, apparently in preparation for an expected counterthrust against the Allies.

with his Congressional leaders.
Rayburn outlined to reporters then the plan for McCormack to ask unanimous consent for an address by MacArthur.
Rayburn said it means a joint meeting of the two houses of Congress in the House chamber.
While Senate action is not necessary, Senate Democratic Leader McFarland (Ariz.) said "I expect the Senate to go along with the action of the House."
Rayburn, McFarland, Vice President Barkley and McCormack participated in the White House conference.
Aside from talking about MacArthur, the Democratic leaders said the conference had a briefing by Gen. Omar Bradley, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, on battlefront reports from Korea.
They would not discuss Bradley's briefing.
