Youths Arraigned On Burglary Rap Donald Robert McGinnis, 19, and Richard Alvarado, 18, both of Anaheim, were arraigned in Santa Ana Justice court late yesterday on a charge of burglary of an automobile. Justice Howard Cameron set their preliminary hearing for April 19. Santa Ana police arrested the two youths last Sunday evening while they were alleged to have been engaged in removing a radio from the car of Arthur A. Sauer, Santa Ana. Police said they found in the prisoners' car 13 cases of soda-pop that had been stolen from a Santa Ana service station and an assortment of automobile hub caps, tender skirts and other accesories allegedly taken from parked cars. Anaheimer Designs Flower Show Card Don Schilling of Anaheim together with other art students at Santa Ana college has aided in designing posters for the Santa Ana Ebells Flower show to be held on April 10 at the Community Center club house. The request for the posters came from Mrs. Adeline Walker who is director of district 1-B in Orange county. The project coincided with the showcard technique unit which was being taught in the college Anaheim Opinion (Continued from Page 1) off all the "stupid" politics involved in the general's "sacking." Maybe it will help "clean out the rascals in Washington," he opined. O. E. HANSON rock-bottom low. City Council last night over the objections of Councillor South Gaters Get Trash Contract C. V. Taormina and William Stepanian of South Gate were given a six months trial contract to pick up and dispose of combustible rubbish in Anaheim's business district last night by city council. Taormina and Stepanian solicited the job for a $300 per month fee and offered to take on a trial basis. They explained that they can do the job cheaply since they salvage some of the trash for sale. Trash will be hauled to the Vermont st., dump, baled and hauled to Los Angeles for disposal. City Attorney Preston Turner was instructed to draw up a contract for a six month trial period, continuation of which will be contigent on faithful performance of the terms of the contract. Taormina and Stepanian will have to put up a $2000 performance of contract bond for the trial period. Chest Campaign (Continued from Page 1) shown to each group before the end of the year. Heying insisted that the subdivider be asked to bring two lots in the subdivision up to the space requirements of the RO zoning ordinance which requires 75-foot frontage and 9000 square feet of area in that zone. Two of Maas' lots have only 65 feet of frontage and are deficient in overall area. The problem was held over for a future meeting, then was called up again later when Maas walked into the chamber. Heying had gone home in the meantime and was not present when Maas went into his sales talk. Maas said cutting the number of lots from 8 to 7, as Heying had requested, would make it unprofitable to go into the subdivision. Heying's main objection was that accepting the Maas map would enter a wedge of precedent which would eventually nullify the RO zone provisions of the new zoning ordinance. Maas' sales talk prevailed, however, and the map was accepted. Protests, Support Swamp California By The Associated Press Southern Californians deluged Western Union offices today with telegrams — both of protest and support—for the ouster of General MacArthur. Most notable reaction appeared to be the number of voters who learned who their Senators and Congressmen are. Paper after paper, An Los Angeles and smaller cities, reported a flood of inquiring telephone calls for names and addresses of their elected representatives. A Western Union spokesman said the volume is the heaviest in years on any political issue, and fused to follow United Nation policy. History will record the President Truman was right. In Ontario, four callers asked the Daily Report where they could sign petitions to impeach the president. In Republican Padena, the Star-News reported that unusually large number of telephone calls, all in opposition to the dismissal. The San Bernardino Evening Telegram reported many calls to protest, some calling the President unprintable names. The Los Beach Press-Telegram had a call from one subscriber suggesting that the Kefauver Senate Crime Investigating committee look into Truman's election. He said he talked with scores of people, but couldn't find one who voted for the president. Duval (Continued from Page 1) son, James Donald Duval and now operating the pit union power of attorney from his son Warren Schutte, representing Duval, asked the council to give Duval time to remove piled-up silt from the bottom of the pit order to retrieve the money he had invested in screening to frost sand from the silt. She objected to the request on grounds that Duval had already taken a legalimate profit from the sale of sand and therefore had no investment in the silt. Furthermore, he pointed out, indications are that Duval is removing silt from the bottom of the pit, not from the silt pile. To complaints from residents of the area that sand trucks spilt dirt and sand on North St., an area also has soils eroded by heavy rain. Chest Campaign (Continued from Page 17) shown to each group before the end of the year. The board decided to organize a speaker's bureau in the interests of the Chest drive with Mr. Bernard Jordain as chairman. Speakers will be chosen and trained to give five minute talks to groups of clubs and in factories. "Steve" Stephens, of Stephens and Stephens Escrow, was appointed director on the Community Chest board last night. Next meeting is scheduled for May 8, 7:30 p.m., at the Chamber of Commerce. Paper in Los Angeles and smaller cities, reported a flood of inquiry telephone calls for names and addresses of their elected representatives. A Western Union spokesman said the volume is the heaviest in years on any political issue, and about equals Valentine's day in the amount of extra business. This put it well behind Christmas. The spokesman said no check had been made of the ratio of support for the move against opposition. In Pasadena, Lewis Gough, national vice-commander of the American Legion, called it "a tragic action ... which has stunned the three million fighting men of the American Legion." Chairman Roger W. Jessup of the county board of supervisors said: "One of the greatest tragedies that has ever happened in this country ... an act of stifling Americanism itself." Los Angeles Mayor Fletcher Bowron: "I just wish this thing could be submitted to a popular vote. I am sure General MacArthur would be overwhelmingly supported." Police Chief William H. Parker of Los Angeles, district American Legion commander: "This disunity between military and political leaders must be very cheering to the Kremlin ..." But the other side had its spokesmen, too. John B. Elliott, long-time Democratic leader, said: "I think the president has done what he had to do. He must have obedience. He is the commander in chief." And Attorney Patrick J. Cooney said: "MacArthur refused to obey his commander in chief and re-sand from the silt. Shea objected to the request on grounds that Duval had already taken a legitimate profit from the sale of sand and therefore had no investment in the silt. Furthermore, he pointed out, indications are that Duva is removing silt from the bottom of the pit, not from the silt pile. To complaints from residents of the area that sand trucks spit dirt and sand on North st., and cause danger to children by driving at excessive speeds, Schur pointed out that two other sand pits are operated in the nearby vicinity, one by Nich South, the other by Frank T. Moreno. He said trucks from both pits also use North st., therefore Duva was not entirely to blame for the nuisances of dirt, dust, noise and speeding trucks. Discussion of the other two pits prompted the council to order an investigation into the conditions under which the South and Moreno pits are being operated City Administrator Keith Murdoch who was instructed to make the inquiry said the South pit is operated without a variance, since it has been operating since before the zoning ordinance became law The Moreno pit is operated under a variance. Motion to cancel Duval's variance came from Councilman Rav van Waggoner and was seconded by Councilman Oscar Heying. Complaints that the Duva family have been operating a plant in the sand pit and on the adjoining Duval property were automatically answered when both attorneys, Shea and Schur reported that the hogs had been removed from the premises and steps were to be taken to plow under the remaining evidences of the hogs' habitation there.
