For Results and Quick Anaheim Gazette MONDAY, APRIL 4, 1905 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Presbyterian (Continued from Page 7) shaw, oldest living member of the church who was united with the Presbyterian church in 1876 and who has held membership since the sixth year of its existence. Mrs. Grimshaw was prevented by illness from being present and was represented by her daughter, Mary Alice Grimshaw, a member of the church since 1904. Mrs. Oscar H. Renner, member of the church since 1900, representing members of more than 50 years standing, Lewis A. Fisher, charter member of the Co-Workers Bible class; Mrs. Page Vincent, president of the Women's Fellowship; Charles A. Pearson, member of the church since 1913 and mayor of Anaheim; Adolf Schoepe, friend of the church and president of the Chamber of Commerce. Patricia Mattox, moderator of the Westminster Youth Fellowship; Carol Ann Fitz, representing the Junior High Fellowship; Katherine Stewart Walker, representing the children of the church and Gibbs, ordained an elder in the Presbyterian church in 1909, he was also a member of the original new building committee, and represented the session of which he is a current member. Contents of the sealed copper box in the cornerstone included: HOREAN WAR (Continued from Page 11) seven miles north of the 88th Parallel, is the main point of the stoutest red resistance in North Korea in several weeks. In bitter fighting south of the reservoir Monday the reds slowed or stopped Allied advances at several points. The dam is 275 feet high. The teds opened 10 of its 18 floodgates. Six gates were reported inoperable. The reds may have had two purposes in loosing their man-made flood: First, to cut the Chunchon-Hawachon highway, a main Allied supply artery. Second, to pave the way for a counter-offensive down the Chunchon-Wonju highway. Although fighting near the reservoir has been severe, AP correspondent Leif Erickson at U.S. Eighth Army headquarters said there was no indication the reds had started a mass drive. An estimated communist regiment was sighted Sunday afternoon between the river and advancing, Allied soldiers. Aerial photographs clearly showed the floodgates closed then. The Chinese apparently opened the floodgates and pulled out sometime after dark. U.N. troops of four nations are Newport to Hold Shell Racing NEWPORT BEACH (—Southern California will take its first venture into big time college crew racing this Saturday on what a former Yale coach calls "the finest natural course in the country." Rowing has never received the attention in these parts that it has in San Francisco, Seattle and the East coast. In fact, only since the last war have UCLA and the University of Southern California conducted crew at all. And they used borrowed shells. Saturday's regatta will be among California, Stanford, SC and UCLA. Actually, it will be little more than an exhibition, because Cal, long on experience in the sport, is a prohibitive favorite. Golfers Deplore Commissioner Lack AUGUSTA, Ga., (P) —"We've got to get a commissioner—and get one quick—or our game is liable to get all fouled up." The words were those of Jimmy Demaret but they re-echeed today throughout the ranks of professional golf, now torn by a succession of bitter controversies. An estimated communist regiment was sighted Sunday afternoon between the river and advancing, Allied soldiers. Aerial photographs clearly showed the floodgates closed then. The Chinese apparently opened the floodgates and pulled out sometime after dark. U.N. troops of four nations are deployed around Chunchon. Some forward elements might be temporarily cut off by the rising water. The high water may extend as far down the Pukhan river as Seoul, some 55 air miles southeast. The reservoir is chaped like an inverted "T" with a base and stem each 15 miles long. The city of Hwachon is on its western tip. Chorwon, an important red base 17 miles north of 38 on the western front, was brought under American artillery fire Monday. Only light to moderate ground contact was reported from this sector. There was little fighting on other fronts. River Tour (Continued from Page 1) ently most of the river flow is taken into the canals of the two major water companies, some distance above Yorba bridge. After viewing the delivery of the water at the aqueduct, where Secretary W. D. Miller of the water district explained to the group the facts of the water purchase, and issued pamphlets giving statistics of the MWD system and data regarding the system and supply contemplated if and when the Orange County Municipal Water district joins MWD. The pamphlets also contained facts regarding the holdings of the two major water companies which form the Santa Ana River Development Co., owning some 5500 acres of land in Prado basin. This land is retained for the purpose of developing and conserving water in Prado basin it was explained. Returning from the MWD aqueduct, the party made a brief stop at the nearby sewage treatment plant of the city of Riverside. AUGUSTA, Ga., (P) — "We've got to get a commissioner—and get one quick—or our game is liable to get all fouled up." The words were those of Jimmy Demaret but they re-echoed today throughout the ranks of professional golf, now torn by a succession of bitter controversies. "This is a wonderful sport of ours but unless we get someone to run the show and run it right the players and the public will lose confidence." Demaret added. The dapper Masters champion from Ojal, Calif., still rankles from the $500 fine he had to pay a few weeks ago for playing in the Mexican Open championship. Demaret contended he had a right to play where he pleased. The Professional Golfers association tournament ruled he and a half dozen others who went below the border should have played at Harlingen, Tex. The Mexican jumpers—including Vic Ghezzi, former PGA champion, who was fined $200—all complained bitterly to the PGA chieftans but it didn't do any good. "As long as players are asked to rule against players we will have animosity, dissention and unrest," said Ghezzi, the bronzed giant from New Jersey. "We must have a disinterested party ruling on our many problems. "Why, it's a ridiculous situation — just like Joe DiMaggio rushing in from the outfield and calling Ted Williams out at second." Three members of this seven-man body of barnstorming golf—Lawson Little, Horton Smith and Clayton Heafner — agreed today to the acute need of a firm controlling hand. "He might have to be a dollar-a-year man at first," added Little, vice-chairman of the committee headed by Hoe Novak "We have only about $1000 left over after operating expenses to pay the salary of such an office." OK, So Don't Pick Red Sox This Year By JACK HAND NEW YORK (P)—No Red Sox. No red Sox. Not even if you got Joe DiMaggio 19. Copies of newspapers announcing corner stone laying 1951. 20. OPS to Discuss Tavern Regulations Details of price control regulations as they affect tavern and restaurant operators, will be discussed tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the American Legion hall at Santa Ana. The meeting will be conducted by a price specialist of the Los Angeles district Office of Price Stabilization. Notices have been sent out by the California Tavern association to all members as well as to others in the Orange county area who would be interested in attending. Returning from the MWD aqueduct, the party made a brief stop at the nearby sewage treatment plant of the city of Riverside, at the request of Engineer Loren Blakely of Santa Ana, consultant of the county supervisors on water pollution. Blakely said he wanted the Orange county residents to be aware of the pollution threat in the location of the sewage plant along the river. Sewage there is given secondary treatment, then used on the nearby land, before percolating back into the underground supply, eventually reaching Orange county. Leaving the sewage plant, the party made a stop at LeGaye point, overlooking Prado basin, where the water companies have dredged channels for the river flow, also ditches to drain seepage back into the main channel. The party inspected a break in the dyke of the main channel caused when the flow of Colorado water was stepped up last week from 60 to 80 second feet. It was necessary to reduce the flow last Friday. Arrangements have been made to repair the break, after which the flow will again be increased to 80 second feet, and subsequently to 90 second feet if the channel will accommodate it, Miller announced. OK, So Don't Pick Red Sox This Year BY JACK HAND NEW YORK OP—No Red Sox. No red Sox. Not even if they get Joe DiMaggio, Bob Lemon and Vic Raschi. You swore off for keeps last September. But that was seven months ago. With opening day a week off, the old craving returns. Giving up the Red Sox is tougher than cutting out cigarettes. That power. That pitching. That Fenway Park. How can they lose? The American league, shapes up like a three-club race with Boston, New York, and Cleveland in the thick of it. Detroit, off to a bad spring start, does not impress as a pennant contender. Back of the first four, it's a grab bag, like two separate leagues with Washington, Chicago, St. Louis and Philadelphia in the second. Here's the way it looks from here: 1. Boston 2. New York 3. Cleveland 4. Detroit 5. Washington 6. Chicago 7. St. Louis 8. Philadelphia Marine organisms which give the water a ruddy tint have given the Red Sea its name. HOMEMAKERS FORUM (Continued from Page 3) a dream. Rich and creamy, it blends two of nature's most healthful fruits. Small children find it especially easy to digest. As a digestive aid, pure papaya is available in tablet form. Powdered papaya tenderizes meat, and flavors soups, stews and sandwich spreads. LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. Anaheim Gazette, April 9, 1951.)
