Anaheim Gazetteer by JOHN S. NEUBAUER Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom and with all thy getting get understanding.—Proverbs 4:7. NEWSHORTS—City Attorney Preston Poster doesn't give up easily. Although Superior Judge Franklin West and the appellate court ruled against Anaheim in the now famous "shoestring annexation" dispute, Turner will take the case to the state supreme court. Incidentally, do you know that the supreme court handed down a verdict in favor of Alex Bernal. Anaheim truck driver? Looks like Tommy O'Hanlon will get the appointment of rural route carrier in Placentia. He deserves it. He was a Thunderbolt pilot during the war, is married and has five little O'Hanlons around the house. Why is it so tough to get a "civil service" job in Placehia? Remember how Talbot Bielefeldt was kicked around in Placentia? Don't say they don't play politics on the local level. SUGGESTION—To City Administrator Keith Murdock: Please drive from one end of Santa Ana street to the other. Thank you. White Temple Methodist church will be sung by the four combined church choirs. Following the opening processional, the combined youth choirs will sing "Awake, Thou Wintry Earth," by J. S. Bach. The youth choirs consist of a Junior choir, directed by Mrs. Eleanor Gilbreath; a Boy's choir, directed by Mrs. Ruth Demaree Preston; a Girl choir, directed by Mrs. Gwen Ahlstrom Harlow. The Temple choir will sing "Sunrise on Easter Morn," which has been arranged by W. B. Olds for adult choir and trumpets. Trumpeters for this Easter service will be Rock Conklin and Paul Billows, who have been trained by William Cook, of the Anaheim union high school. Prior to the morning sermon, the four combined choirs, under the direction of Gania Demaree, minister of music, will present an arrangement of the Easter hymn and anthem "All Hall the Power of Jesus's Name," by Goldsworthy. Climaxing the service will be a choral by the Temple choir of Martin Shaw's, "Gloria." Virginia Sims Burk will be organist for both 9:00 and 10:50 Easter morning services at White Temple. The music will be identical at each of the two services. Daniel Demaree will assist as organist between the two morning services. O'Dwyer (Continued from Page 1) as New York City Water Commissioner. "This removes a man who never should have been in public life before." Tobey declared. Crane testified at the New York hearings that he had given $55,000 to Moran. Moran denied it, but resigned his $15,000 a year city job under demands from Mayor Vincent R. Impelliteri. The AFL International Association of Fire Fighters, with headquarters here, made a demand for Crane's resignation as vice-president, but he refused to give it. President John P. Redmond announced that Crane had been suspended effective today. KOREAN WAR (Continued from Page 1) SUGGESTION—To City Administrator Keith Murdock: Please drive from one end of Santa Ana street to the other. Thank you. CONGRATULATIONS — Paul Demaree, the able Anaheim educator, is to be congratulated on his election as a director of the California Association of Secondary School Administrators. Not only is it a high honor, but a personal recognition for his ability work. He deserves all the honors that can be bestowed upon him, because he earned them. PEOPLE—Marion (Shorty) Hill, president of the newly formed girls softball league tells us that Ann Babashoff, the beauteous blonde bomber, became the mother of a husky nine pound baby last week. Clyde Cassidy is working double time these days—getting the spinach crop into cans. That makes a lot of additional work for Ralph Petty, the little man with a big job in Hunt Foods payroll department. John Tynes is a newsworthy Placentian. He seems to make news. Not only did he do an exceptional job as a coach and a city councilman, but he teaches a naturalization class. Not one of his students has failed to become a citizen. W. A. Mills plans to build a $100,000 automobile agency building in Fullerton. The McCoy-Mills establishment, y'recall, was destroyed by fire. TODAY—This is Good Friday—a day to pause momentarily from the cares of a war-weary world to meditate and pay homage to the Prince of Peace who gave His life that we might live. COMMENTS—When Joe Scholtz, P. D.-Drake, Les Moon and associates purchased the Valencia hotel from W. C. McDermott they brushed aside a lot of cobwebs one time and brought war, is married and has five little O'Hanlons around the house. Why is it so tough to get a "civil service" job in Placeville? Remember how Talbot Bleierfeldt was kicked around in Placeville? Don't say they don't play politics on the local level. Greenhouse Tests Show Effect of Light on Camellias SACRAMENTO (P.) — California's sunshine isn't enough sometimes, for California gardeners. Especially for such slow-growing plants as camellias. So there's a little experiment going on in a capitol park greenhouse corner. It's been underway for eight months. Three hundred camellia twigs were stuck in little pots full of dirt by gardener Jerry Olrich and his aides. A hundred of them were boarded off by themselves. An electric light has been burning above them, night and day, month after month. It's been perennial sunshine of a sort, even after the sun goes down. Another hundred have been getting ordinary daylight, plus two minutes of electric light during each hour of darkness. The third hundred were just placed on the greenhouse shelves. When the sun's out, they get it. When it's not, it's dark for them. The results? The camellias which have an electric light all night are away ahead in height. They average 14 inches, though a little spindly and just a touch lighter in their color. The camellias getting the two minutes of light during the night average about eight inches high. And the gardeners are a little puzzled to note that the plants getting the natural light of day and the natural uninterrupted war, is married and has five little O'Hanlons around the house. Ridgway landed in his light plane on a dirt road near Munsan only 29 minutes after the first paratrooper jumped. Field dispatches said the Eighth Army commander at one time was in the thick of a heavy firefight. The parachute operation was carried out on a fast schedule. C-119 flying boxcars roared over the one-mile drop area on express train schedule. The paratroopers had only 20 seconds from signal to "hit the silk." Ammunition cases, jeeps and artillery billowed down after them. "It would be beautiful—really beautiful—if it weren't so terrible," said a lieutenant colonel, describing the drop. Ridgway, tight-lipped, told correspondents: "the purpose of this operation is to kill the enemy." Inflation (Continues from Page 1) in public interest in stamping out organized crime and keeping its influence from affecting government on every level. Meanwhile, bills proposed by the governor and his California Crime commission to tax big-time rackets out of existence pushed ahead in the legislature. COMMENTS—When Joe Scholtz, P. D. NITECAPSULE—If you don't try, you should; if you can't, you could; never give up, it's worth a try. Christian Science Topic 'Matter' Belief in and worship of matter leads to sin, sickness, and death, whereas an understanding of God restores health and well-being according to the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Matter" in all Christian Science churches. The Golden Text is from Psalms (81:9, 10): "There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god. I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt." OMES - GARDENS BUILDING Building for Week Passes $1,000,000 More than a million dollars in building permits were issued for the unincorporated territory of Orange county during the past week, records of the county building department disclosed. Gazette photo by Bradley Volume Operations Provide Low-Cost, Quality Housing The volume buying of raw materials, plans and property of the larger tract builders is the answer to prospective home-buyers who want quality at a budget price, builder Henry C. Cox said today. Cox, whose Lifetime Homes Co. built nearly 1000 Orange county homes last year, offered his concern's new home site in the 700 block on East Chapman in Fullerton as an example. "Our mass buying of oak flooring, garbage disposal units, tension screening, hardware, high grade plumbing and other building needs saves hundreds of dollars which we pass on to the buyer," Cox explained. Not only raw products, but also the knowledge and plans along with large area buying of property saves the new home buyer money and allows additional luxury. "It is the American way-of mass production that gives almost anyone a chance to own a home." Do you feel like this in the morning ... after trying to rest on that old BUMPY MATTRESS? We can...
