LEE'S GAL FRIDAY Garden Gossip
At this time of year, the feminine sex is fashion-minded and fashion shows take the limelight.
Far-sighted gardeners plan their own FASHION PARADE OF COLOR by designing the arrangement of their flower beds harmoniously so that the effect is striking. For instance, the varying shades of the TALL DELPHINIUM or PERENNIAL PHLOX make a showy background. (If you plant the husky FIELD-GROWN CLUMPS of DELPHINIUM we have, you will get large blossoms sooner.) In front of these, you can use ASTERS with a border of ANNUAL PHLOX. For a SHADY TREE WELL, we suggest TUBEROUS BEGONIAS combined with JAPANESE ANEMONE. Reserve a spot somewhere for DAHLIAS alone. GLADIOLUS are very attractive planted in clumps instead of a row.
We have just the GARDEN HOSE for the WISE GARDENER, LIGHT and CLEAN PLASTIC HOSE in 25 or 50 foot lengths—and SPRINKLERS of all kinds to go with them. Check our TOOL RACKS for the TOOLS you are lacking to do an efficient job. GARDEN CARTS—WHEEL-BARROWS—LAWNMOWERS are other items helpful in maintaining an attractive yard.
Remember the needs of your dinner table in your planting. Better hurry and get in those BARE ROOT FRUIT TREES and GRAPES. There is a VARIETY of VEGETABLE PLANTS ready now including TOMATOES and PEPPERS. You should see the good looking CITRUS and AVOCADO TREES we have just re-

Burgeoning Values Necessitate Survey of Insurance Coverage
Every home owner inspecting his house ought to inspect that tin box in the closet, or the pigeon hole in his desk, or his safety deposit box—wherever it is he keeps his fire insurance policies.
Property values have gone up so far in recent years and building costs have risen so sharply that comparatively few owners of older houses have enough insurance to cover losses completely if they have a fire. In the last 12 months, construction costs have increased 27 per cent in the New York-New Jersey area.

COOL WELCOME—Eating out of doors is fun in the Boege's well appointed backyard patio. Concrete has been used to provide a firm footing and it allows room for a colorful border of flowers and the rockgarden in center background.

Boege Home Features Triplicate Plan
BOEGE HOME FEATURES TRIPLICATE PLAN FOR INDOOR-OUTDOOR LIVING AND EATING
BY JOAN S. WHITE
"Where do we eat?"
This question logically follows the familiar refrain, "when do we eat," because the modern trend is away from the dining room as our grandparents knew it. Today the only limitations placed on dining space is that it be convenient to the kitchen and have the pleasant atmosphere conducive to good digestion.
In Dr. and Mrs. John Boege's new house, 11372 Barton ave., the stage has been set for dining in three different places; a cozy breakfast nook, a formal dining room and an outdoor patio. Each holds a special charm of its own and each is very near the kitchen.
In fact, the breakfast nook is a part of the kitchen itself. Planned to save steps for the cook yet appeal to the diner, the table and chairs are arranged in an alcove before a large plate glass window. The window overlooks the garden and almost makes it a part of the room. The gay, bright colors of the kitchen are carried over into the breakfast nook and the lovely window is flanked by crisp ruffled curtains.
Adjacent to the kitchen is the beautifully appointed formal dining room where the socially prominent Boeges frequently entertain.
Since it is separated from the living room only by a wide archway, its decoration blends with that of the living room. Both rooms are carpeted from wall to wall with Alexander Smith rose beige carpeting. This luxurious carpeting with its deep pile and scroll design in the weave, gives a feeling of spaciousness yet binds the whole decorative scheme into a cohesive unit.
The plastered walls which are painted a color called "Georgia peach," blend harmoniously with the tone of the rug and provide a pleasing background for the lively printed faille draperies. These light shades offer a perfect setting for the 18th century walnut dining room suite.
The wall treatment is especially interesting. Mrs. Boege has obtained a charming effect with groupings of hand painted plates which she received as wedding gifts forty-one years ago.
Into The Garden
When Sunday morning breakfast time rolls around, Dr. and Mrs. Boege may be found in their backyard patio which has every provision for dining out of doors.
The patio is shielded from the wind by a five foot redwood fence and shaded by two large orange trees. A slab of cement which leaves just enough space for a border garden, provides a firm footing. The cement is tinted green.
The Boeges have chosen both redwood and aluminum for their outdoor furniture. The circular umbrella and kidney-shaped ing light in weight, are easy to move.
Comes barbecue time and the center of attraction is the portable barbecue with its revolving spit. This can be rolled right to the table so that all can admire the roasting chicken, the chunk of browning beef or the Shish Kebabs which are Dr. Boege's specialty.
At the edge of the cement slab is a border of shade-loving plants and an informal rock garden. This rock garden has been a grand excuse for evening rides during which Mrs. Boege and her two granddaughters, Barbara and Joyce, collected the rocks from the surrounding country-side.
The Boeges do all their own gardening. The colorful profusion of tuberous begonias, English primroses, camellias, hibiscus, fuschias and ferns belie the fact that this garden is scarcely two years old.
At present, they are having good luck with dichondra planted from seed. When the landscaping is finished, future plans call for an outdoor fireplace with built-in barbecue.

There's nothing unusual about that. You can match the story in Louisville, Duluth, Sacramento, or any other community. And you can beat the story. A man in Hartford paid $3,500 for a house in 1930 and offered it for sale a few months ago. The lowest of six offers was $9,000.
But the man in New Rochelle was red-faced when his buyer took title and took out fire insurance for $22,500.
How Much to Carry
"You're over-insuring," the seller remarked. "Even if the house burns down you still have the lot and the basement."
"I know that," the buyer replied, "but I also know from shopping around that I could not replace this house today for less than $22,500. How much insurance were you carrying?"
When the seller said $12,000, the buyer observed:
"Well, you're lucky to be selling. If your house burned down last night, you'd be right where I am—looking for a house just like it for $22,500. And you'd be looking with only $12,000."
Never buy fire insurance on the basis of what you paid for your house or your furniture and other household goods.
Always figure it on what it would cost to replace it. And then insure for the full amount.
A graham cracker crust makes a quick and delicious base for a lemon pie. For the filling use a packaged mix if you like.
