The cares of this world,
and the deceitfulness of riches,
and the lust of other things

ANAHEIMERS—Who were the original Colonists? Although numerous histories of the Mother Colony were written by competent authorities few of them actually give the chronological history of Campo Alleman—as the settlement was known to the Californian of that day.
Anaheim was actually incorporated as a city in 1870, but municipal government was so costly that the Mother Colony was disincorporated in 1872 by an act of the State Legislature.
It was incorporated again in 1878 and reincorporated in 1888—a year before Orange county was carved out of the Southern section of Los Angeles county.
HISTORIAN—Hallock F. Raup has written a very comprehensive account of Anaheim—but he, like so many others, had to draw from other documents of the early days.
FACTS—People live for the present and build toward the future. The passed is just so much
WOULD JUNK RFC.
WASHINGTON (P) — The House Republican policy committee called today for abolition of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. It said the lending agency has "degenerated into an instrument for the peddling of influence."
At the same time, a member of the House Appropriations committee said the group will not consider an RFC request for $17,835,000 for administrative expenses for the fiscal year beginning July 1.
Representative Canfield (RNJ) made that statement to the House during debate on President Truman's proposal to replace the five-man RFC board with a single administrator.
Across the capitol, there were demands also from two Senators for an end to the RFC.
Senator Byrd (D-Va) announced in a statement he will introduce a bill tomorrow to abolish the agency.
In a speech, Senator Alken told the Senate the RFC should be abolished "without delay."
Orange Sweating Order Approved
SACRAMENTO (P)—A bill regulating the "sweating" of oranges to improve their color was passed today by the Assembly and sent to the Senate.
The measure provides that oranges can not be treated with a gas for coloring improvement
HISTORIAN—Hallock F. Raup has written a very comprehensive account of Anaheim—but he, like so many others, had to draw from other documents of the early days.
FACTS—People live for the present and build toward the future. The passed is just so much water under the bridge and offers topics for old timers to reminisce nostalgically.
E. Wentel, C. Rust, J. Vineyard, C. Shell, H. Bremermann, A. Hoelcher and H. Himmelman are listed as the owners of the 25-acre plots along North st.
P. Hammer, C. Rust, C. Kuchiel, C. Shell, H. Muese, C. Rehm and H. Schenk own the plots bordering these and facing Sycamore st., down which one of the main irrigation canals once ran.
C. Mossmann, A. Himmelmann, C. Schmidt, J. Keller, J. Roach and H. Cramer were listed as the owners of the plots south of Sycamore st. C. Mossmann actually must have had two plots bounded by Sycamore st., West st., Center st., and Citron, J. Hittel, C. Echmidt also had extensive holdings.
ANAHEIMERS — H. and C. Koeger, H. Padderata, E. Neuhans, J. Maiz, R. Luedke and J. Zeyn tiso had stock in the colony's beginnings.
PIONEERS—In the true sense of the word, these people were really pioneers of a new agrarian movement—as they carved their home on the Santa Ana out of unsettled grazing land.
H. Sturenberg, C. VonGuelpen, A. Himbold, J. and H. Boege, George Hansen who actually surveyed Don Juan Pacifico Ontveras' rancho before being commissioned to find a site for the Colony, and C. Beythlen were among the original Anaheimers.
Hartman and Reiser owned a 25-acre plot between them. Reiser, according to some historians, was the only vintner of the lot.
NAMES—J. Boch, F. Bachman, F. Kupli and J. Andres are also shown as landowners. Anaheim's Orange Swearing Order Approved
SACRAMENTO (UP)—A bill regulating the "sweating" of oranges to improve their color was passed today by the Assembly and sent to the Senate.
The measure provides that oranges can not be treated with a gas for coloring improvement unless their acid and sugar content are at the minimum level before sweating.
The bill is by Assemblyman Harlah Hagen (D-Hanford).
The curb is necessary, said Hagen, because the sweating tends to increase the quality of the orange itself, sometimes giving immature oranges the required amounts of acid and sugar.
"This bill would prevent the picking of green, immature oranges," said Assemblyman L. Stewart Hinckley (R-Redlands), in asking for passage.
KOREAN WAR
(Continued from Page 11)
Then they stormed ahead despite mortar, automatic weapons and small arms fire.
At the same time Fifth Air Force fighter-bombers blasted the red concentration area to the northeast.
Farther east U.S. Seventh Division patrols searched the countryside in a vain search for communist strongholds.
There was no ready explanation for the sudden communist withdrawal from the mountain redoubts where they had fought bitterly for every yard of ground.
Some front line officers said possibly they were pulling back to make a new stand in prepared defenses in the ridges north of Hongchon.
"It was such tough going yesterday and so easy today," a sergeant said.
All along the 70-mile front the reds were putting up only a show of rear-guard resistance.
But Allied commanders were wary. They did not label the red withdrawal a rout.
"We've got the enemy reeling back but he still isn't knocked out," said Maj. Gen. Claude B.
veyed Don Juan Pacifico Onterversa rancho before being commissioned to find a site for the Colony, and C. Berthien were among the original Anaheimers.
Hartman and Reiser owned a 25-acre plot between them. Reiser, according to some historians, was the only vintner of the lot.
NAMES—J. Boch, F. Bachman, F. Kuep and J. Andres are also shown as landowners. Anaheim's past is confusion exemplified. None of the so-called authorities agree on facts or details of events.
ANTIQUITY—Though many of the deeds of the early Anaheimer have been lost with the passage of time, Earnie Moehler will be one of the first to remind you that the old timers built a solid foundation for a brilliant future. He disagrees with the closing remarks Raup made in his brief work on the Colony.

Musicians Strike Ordered Tomorrow
NEW YORK U.S.-Union musicians said today they would strike tomorrow at 3 p.m. (PST) with support from theatrical stars against New York stations of bigilio and television networks. The musicians seek a higher pay scale. A similar strike is planned at same time in Hollywood.
Samuel Suber, president of Local 802 of the AFL American Federation of Musicians, said he had conferred today with Orchestra Leader Vaughn Monroe and other band leaders and conductors.
He said the strike would be supported also by Jimmy Durante, Milton Berle, Fred Allen, Don Voorhees, Howard Barlow, Raymond Scott and others.
Only the approval of the inter-national office of the union, headed by James C. Bacillo, is needed to allow the strike to start as scheduled. Suber said.
He said a strike would surely "shut off certain programs."
