Three months ago he began carrying the paper to residents in the section of Anaheim north of Sycamore st., and between Olive and Palm sts. Today he is delivering 180 papers per day—a respectable record of good service and effort which has earned him 400 points in the Gazette's rating system for carrier-boys. A seventh grader at Fremont junior high school, Walter is more interested in his stamp collection and his job than in sports. When he feels he needs a bit of fresh air and exercise, he goes fishing. His stamp collection boasts 700 or more stamps, all properly catalogued. Born in San Diego, Walter came to Anaheim 1½ years ago with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Wittesch and his sister, Margaret, 8. They live at 933 W. Sycamore st. One of Walter's fondest memories is his visit with the family, two years ago, to his grandmother's home in Germany, where his parents were born. Helping Walter to his good rating is his ability as a salesman. His last 11 subscription sales were accomplished in a short period of time working Saturday morning. Lester Boyle, consulting engineers, was hired to proceed with plans and specifications for the La Palma and Ballrd trunk sewers. Boyle's fee will be five per cent of construction costs. Joe R. Thompson, chairman of Anaheim planning commission, was granted permission to re-hire Gordon Whitnall, planning consultant who assisted the commission in planning the city's new zoning law. Thompson said his board wishes to serve as a "real planning board" and not just as a variance committee. Whitnall will be assisting the board in straightening out the street plans in the "spaghetti bowl" section of Anaheim where Santa Ana Freeway chopped off some of the city's streets. Planners were also given permission to revise the subdivision ordinance, which they claim, is out of date. Permission was granted to the Clyde Beatty Circus to come to town April 25 and operate at La Palma and Citronella.
