For Results and Quick 7 Anaheim Gazette TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1961 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Cage Scandal (Continued from Page 2) Miller was arrested shortly after Gard was escorted away. Gard is in protective custody at his own request. Sollazzo is held without bail; and Robert Sabatini, 60, is held as a material witness in $35,000 ball. Sabatini is described as a gambling associate of Sollazzo. Cracking of the current basketball scandal followed by only five weeks the indictment on bribery charges of two Manhattan college players and others. A New York county (Manhattan) grand jury yesterday resumed its investigation of the current scandal. None of the players appeared, although all are belived ready to turn state's evidence against Sollazzo. Sollazzo's own woes continued to mount yesterday as a federal grand jury began a probe of alleged income tax evasion. An income tax lien for $1,128,483 was filed against Sollazzo's property last week. In addition, his landlord served his wife with eviction papers and said Sollazzo had been slow paying his January rent. The gambler's Central Park west apartment reportedly was the scene of several parties for some accused basketball stars and several other Weather Continued from Page 1 foot at mid-Wilson and Lake Arrowhead, 10 inches at Crestline and 13 inches at Big Bear, where the temperature slid to nine degrees above zero. There was a three-inch blanket on San Marcos pass, north of Santa Barbara, with a temperature of 29 degrees. Snowplows worked all major highways leading north and east of Los Angeles, U.S. 66, 99 and 101. The Ridge Route was closed for a time during the night by snow and ice, but was reopened today to slowly movin traffic. Snow left by a night-long blizzard lay to a foot in depth on San Diego county mountains today. On the coast storm warnings remained up. The snow, heaviest of the winter, left a foot at Mt. Laguna, seven inches at Julian and six to eight inches at Mt. Palomar. Rain fell at lower levels, the heaviest of 1.26 inches being at Descanso. Precipitation throughout San Diego county continued far short of normal. The .26 of an inch measured in the city of San Diego brought the seasonal to only 3.48 inches. Normal is 7.35. An income tax lien for $1,128,493 was filed against Sollazzo's property last week. In addition, his landlord served his wife with eviction papers and said Sollazzo had been slow paying his January rent. The gambler's Central Park west apartment reportedly was the scene of several parties for some accused basketball stars and several other players. The papers were served by attorneys for the renting agents, Chain Management; Inc., a spokesman for the agents said Sollazzo was an undesirable tenant. Sollazzo's wife, Jeanne, a pretty ex-model, has been in a hospital with a heart ailment. She has been subpoenaed by the district attorney. Another development yesterday was Roman's turning in to the district attorney, $500 in alleged bribe money. He previously had turned in $2500. The district attorney has recovered a total of $23,540 from six of the players. FJC War Dead To Be Honored Commemorating her dead of the last three wars, Fullerton Junior college has prepared a bronze plaque soon to be hung in the office of the college. Purchased by the Associated Men Students, the memorial has been financed by funds raised by this organization's concession booths at school games and events. Bill Heiden, last year's Associated Men Student's president inaugurated the project. He is expected to be present for the dedication although at present he is serving with the United States Air Force. A complete list of names of those who died in the service during World Wars I and II and the Korean conflict is desired, and the dean's office is requesting that any name required to make the following list complete be forwarded to the college office. The following pames will be inscribed on the Plaque: Donald Wakeham, '39; John Polhemus, '41; Jim Bartholomew, '39; Ed Carter, '39; Jack Chewning, '35; William Cook, '41; Don Drakulich, '41; Karl Labor Camp Continued from Page 1 must be housed somewhere. But he said the proposed Orange county site is "out" for other considerations: water, sawerage, police, etc. Hurwitz declared Citrus Growers, Inc., either bad promoted a conspiracy to slip the proposal through official hands without notice or that somebody had been defraelt in duty. He said that the application for use-permit form for the site had been filled with the planning commission by Citrus Growers, Inc., on Tuesday, first notice was posted at the site on Wednesday and the planning commission passed the application Friday before most of those directly concerned had learned what was happening. He cited the protest of the Anaheim City Council at the Vermont st. site on the southern edge of Anaheim as indication of its general undesirability to any populated neighborhood. Various members of the protesting delegation added their voices to the complaint against the action of the planning group, joining with Hurwitz in declaring that at least there should be time given for proper investigation of all phases of the question. A communication to the supervisors from the Orange city planning commission urged delay in action on the matter until the Orange city commission had time to study the proposal. The communication said the county planning commission had ignored the Orange planning commission request to postpone action. KOREAN WAR Continued from Page 1 howling wind, lasted more than three hours. Field dispatches reported it was one of the sharpest actions in the week-old renewal of the United Nations drive to kill, maim or capture Chinese and Korean reds south of Parallel 38. The drive—spearheaded by the U.S. First Marine Division—apparently has thwarted or delayed a Chinese counter-offensive by four to six armies. A U.S. spokesman said 100,000 Chinese had been shifted into defense positions. He added that it would require several weeks for the reds to regroup for any drive against the Allies. A P. correspondent Nate Polowetzky reported "all evidence along the central front continued to point to a planned withdrawal behind stubborn rearguard actions. The disclosure that the First Marine Division is bacing the drive in the mid-section of the central front was the first report of the hardened leathernecks in action since December. At that time the Marines wrote another vivid chapter in the corps history with a lighting withdrawal from the Changjin reservoir to the Northeast coast port of Hunghai. They inflicted tremendous losses on the Chinese before boarding ships of an Allied evacuation fleet.
