EASTER hats are more flattering this spring than ever before. The proof is shown by this Gilland and Wollin chateau from Penney's, modeled by Jo Burdick. A nylon braid poke bonnet, it is trimmed with nylon net and a spring fresh spray of posies. A basic for any wardrobe, this crepe-romaine dress, trimmed with bird's eye pique, features the removable bolero jacket with the new shorter sleeve and wide neat cuffs. Loma of New York manufactures this particular two-piece dress in black and navy, the hat is available in pink, black, navy, white and lilac.

The fashions pictured on the pages of today's Anaheim Gazette serve as a partial pre-view: They are modeenthusiastically by some of Anaheim's most attractiv

CHARLES COOPER CREATION—Thelma Brandt shows an SQR exclusive with an Agnes Original atop her head suggestive of grandma's day. A demure smile and rugulish eyes peep from under the navy white stripe braided sailor. A perky bunch of white and yellow corn flowers and wheat tufts add a note of youthful interest. A white silk shantung shirtwaist is worn beneath the short, navy blue and white striped wool jacket. Pencil slim wool navy skirt and navy calf belt, bag and flattering ankle strap sandals complete this especially smart outfit.

Too bad that true color photos are no more available to newspapers than to television because color is the current keynote of style in both men's and women's clothing. The figure flattering blues through to shades of lilac are popular with the ladies. Mulberry crystal is the name for one smart new lavender shade and other good colors include cascade blue, the fabulous sunset pink, and eggshell or biscuit. Some of the smartest costumes will be made up of black with black or black and white with one sharp color accent in accessories.
World affairs have had a decided effect on our fashions at home. The oriental influence is seen in mandarin jackets and in the intricate basket weaving that trims sportswear so charmingly.
Men in our armed services have never appreciated women's styles which tend toward the plain and severe and so as more men go into uniform, clothes for the ladies happily follow a bewitchingly feminine trend. Shoes are following slimmer lines, stocking shades are lighter. Skirt lengths seem to remain about average, 15 inches from the floor.
Penney's contribution to Anaheim's fashion picture is clearly described by assistant manager W. J. Paprocki when he says:
"Our stocks of new spring merchandise represent both the Los Angeles and New York markets. The Penney Co. contracts for spring merchandise during the previous sum-
