were eliminated. Of the "reliable" reports, he said "there is not a single observation which is not attributable to the cosmic balloons."
These balloons, called skyhooks by the Navy, were first used in 1947, about the time the discs were first sighted. Liddel said reports of "flying saucers" increased or decreased in proportion to the number of balloons sent aloft.
Liddel said he was convinced that a "saucer" photographed at 77,000 feet altitude over Minnesota was a Skyhook.

It is hard to distinguish the presence of the speakers unless they are specifically pointed out, one resting just below the Cadillac insignia and the other snuggling behind the license plate.
On the right front fender stands a knob which is quite harmless in itself, but it serves as the base of operations for a shower which may be thereunto attached. Though the contraption plentifully gushed water upon the Center st. sidewalk on Thursday, no one volunteered to take a shower to test the capacity of its tank.
Inside, in the driver's compartment, besides the ordinary auto accessories, are the wire recorder and a Turkish pipe. The pipe is one of the water purification type, consisting of the tobacco compartment, a bottle of water, and about five feet of rubber hose, which presumably can also be used for siphoning gasoline in a pinch.
One of the most popular attractions, however, is a small stainless steel cabinet nestling on the passenger's side with the lettering "Louie's Bar" written across the front of it. The bottom part may be slid out like a drawer, revealing a row of jiggers and four faucets labeled "water," "soda" and "whiskey."
Mattar has set up his own cooling unit for the whiskey, soda, and one of the water outlets, while the other water outlet leads to an overcapacity tea kettle which heats water while sitting atop the motor under the hood.
A RARE RAIN—Although not used generally in downtown or the city populated residential sections, this is a regular shower that attaches to the right fender of Mattar's car. Cloud seeding is required.

A RARE RAIN—Although not used generally in downtown or the city, populated residential sections, this is a regular shower that attaches to the right fender of Mattar's car. Cloud seeding is required.
Mattar has set up his own cooling unit for the whiskey, soda, and one of the water outlets, while the other water outlet leads to an overcapacity tea kettle which heats water while sitting atop the motor under the hood.
The back seat is the living quarters, so to speak, for it contains the bathroom, a washing machine, and a barbecue pit. The bath is a tile job, with mirror-covered medicine cabinet, wash basin, fluorescent lighting, and an outlet for an electrical appliance, such as a razor. Mattar has also regulated current to 110 volt AC for part.
The barbecue pit slides where the vanishing and lodges in most ordinary Caddis and can be heated up in four minutes. It, too, is open by electricity.
"We took a trip to New last year," said Mitchell, "and the way we cooked every day our meals here in the back."
Mattar, who has put all time, energy, and money into car strictly as a hobby, says isn't finished yet.
"There are about half-a-more things to put in yet, while I wouldn't like tonamely driving, Mattar can curl up and relax with a few puffs off his Turkish pipe which dangles he soothed by the music from his portable wire recorder. What? Oh, that thing shining on the window (Gazette photo by Bradley)

40th Div. to Send 650 to Far East
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Only about 650 members of the National Guard 40th division, at Camp Cooke, near Lompoc, will be included in the special force of more than 16,000 men to bolster U. S. forces in Korea.
Sixth Army headquarters said yesterday that no other units of the Sixth Army are affected.
The men to be sent from Camp Cooke are from volunteer and Trellis Snaps Back At Adventuress
Adventure beckoned Valorie Nelson, 6, yesterday afternoon from some pipes and a trellis running alongside her parents' garage at 122 W. Cypress st., Anaheim.
No faint-hearted lass, Valorie accepted the challenge and climbed the trellis. Adventure was great fun until she managed to get her leg caught in the trellis work.
Unable to get down, Valorie remained hanging in the trellis until Police officer Eddie Brawn and Auxiliary Officer Bob Long came along in answer to a call and released her from the clutches of the trellis.
Her parents were not at home during Valorie's great adventure, according to police report.

It was the opinion of the onlookers, however, that the only thing that could surprise them now about the Mattar marvel would be if he managed to put it somewhere in one of the hubcaps.

Wholesale Lumber Co., to Come Here
A permit for laying a $250 office building foundation was issued today to Oregon Lumber Distributors, represented by C. W. Brooks, 1208 S. Flower st., Santa Ana.
E. W. Moeller, secretary of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, said the lumber company is locating at 111 S. Walnut st—the intersection of Walnut and Manchester blvd—on the invitation of the local chamber. The location is ideal, he said, because the Southern Pacific Railroad has a spur track running on the north side of the property.
Oregon Lumber Distributors is a strictly wholesale dealer in lumber, according to Moeller.
