Underwater Film Disproves 'Silent Deep' Theory; To be Shown Sunday Underwater sounds—never before heard by human ears—are the dramatic subject of a new Moody Bible Institute science film, "Voice of the Deep," to be shown at the Calvary Baptist church, 717 W. Broadway, Sunday (Jan. 28), at 6:30 p.m., according to the Rev. Robert Kevorkian, pastor. Produced in full color and sound by Dr. Irwin A. Moon, the film makes obsolete the old saying about the "silent deep." Gribbald, snapping shrimp, porpoises, croakers and other marine animals are heard for the first time making their unique fish noises into the hydrophone (underwater microphone). Discovery that fish talk was made accidentally during the war. The United States Navy, intending to use the hydrophone to warn of the approach of enemy craft, submerged a network of the delicate instruments into the waters of Chesapeake Bay. But on their first trial, the hydrophones indicated enough noise in the bay for the entire German Navy, thousands of miles away. Baffled, researchers set out to find the cause. Their conclusion disproved a scientific theory that was centuries old, for they found that a school of croakers, not the German Navy, had been responsible for the mysterious sounds. In other words, fish talk! Later investigation into underwater sounds was made by the University of California's division of research. One of the men directing this survey was F. Alton Everest, also associate director of Moody Institute of Science, who provided Dr. Moon with the specialized knowledge necessary for "Voice of the Deep." The 30-minute film follows "God of the Atom" and "God of Creation," earlier scientific productions of Moody Bible Institute, which have been shown to nearly four million people in this country and abroad. Sycamore st., was the unwilling recipient of an expensive ride home last night. Prado told police today that he was forced into a car last night and was driven to his home, but after he got there two of his companion then proceeded to empty his pockets. Prado said that he had been given a ride from Placentia to Anaheim and had disembarked on W. Center st., to start walking toward home. Midway there, the same car—a light green, 1936 two door Ford sedan—came by andthe four men inside offered to take him the rest of the way home. When he declined the offer, Prado told police, he was hauled inside and taken there, anyway. Two men got out with him at that point, walked up the driveway, emptied his pockets, and left. His cash loss was only $1.50, according to the police, but he also was robbed of a cigarette lighter, valued at $12. His report of a 12-mile gain indicated the doughboys had thrust at least two miles north beyond Suwon. The correspondent described it as a "one-two-punch" by battle-tested and renowned outfits. They found the streets of Suwon virtually deserted. The old walled city was a heap of smouldering ruins. The Eighth Army communique said only minor resistance was encountered on the flanks, while resistance stiffened in the center, but it disclosed no details. Aggressive American patrolling, such as had preceded the two-corp punch, continued forward of the attack line Friday. Becker said the patrol which led the way through Suwon ran into varying opposition two miles from Suwon as it sought for the main red strength in that sector. Christian Moslem Film Shown at W.T. Butterworth will preach on the theme, "Drenched With a Dream." The Anniversary Montiac Christian Science Topic 'Truth' The healing power of Truth will be considered in the Sunday Lesson-Sermon in all Christian Science churches. This citation from the Psalms is the Golden Text: "I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people; for thy mercy is great above the heavens; and thy truth reaches unto the clouds" (108:3,4). Lesson-Sermon selections include Paul's counsel to Timothy, "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (II Tim. 2:15). A correlative passage from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy points out: "If the student adheres strictly to the teachings of Christian Science and ventures not to breaks its rules, he cannot fail of success in healing. It is Christian Science to do right and nothing short of right-doing, has any claim to the name (p. 448). CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR Sold at ... Bigler Pharmacy 201 W.
