ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA
MAMMY!—It takes a heap of doing to make an Elks Minstrel show, and the applying of a little grease paint to black up a minstrel is one of the jobs which Al McCauley is performing for a few of the front-line stars of the show. Phil Hopkins, Del Wilkinson and Bob Stedman seem to be enjoying this phase of the rehearsals.
Bonnelli to Ask Break for Calif. Gas-Tax Payers
William G. Bonelli, senior member of the State Board of Equalization in Los Angeles, will leave this week for Chicago, New York and Washington where he will attend tax conferences of vital interest to California citizens. In Chicago Bonelli will attend conferences of the National Association of Tax Administrators, of which he is president and of the Federation of Tax Administrators. Conferences begin Sunday.
One of the main purposes of the trip, Bonelli said, is to meet with other tax authorities and legislators in an effort to remedy inequalities in the Federal tax laws. California taxpayers, he points out, suffer discriminatory treatment in the computation of net income for Federal tax purposes insofar as a deduction for gasoline taxes is concerned. California is the only state in the union whose citizens are not permitted to claim a gasoline tax exemption in their Federal income tax returns.
Bonelli and the California members of the tax association will visit Washington to confer with Representative Cecil R. King and other legislators in a move...
Binglets Worth $200,000 Each Now
LOS ANGELES — The four little Binglets are now worth about $200,000 apiece in their own right.
This was disclosed yesterday in an accounting of the assets of the four sons of Bing Crosby, Gary, 17, the twins Philip and Dennis, 16, and Lindsay, 13. Their financial status came up when Superior Court approved a contract; under which the boys will receive a collective royalty of three cents per disc of the recording, "A Crosby Christmas."
Crosby set up guardianships for his sons in 1942, starting each off with $53,000. He has added to it from time to time and the boys have earned quite a bit in radio appearances.
Frost glasses in which feed drinks are served by dipping the rims in ¼ cup orange juice and then in powdered sugar.
Rev. Lincicome has 45 years of experience as a pastor and evangelist behind him. He is nationally known as preacher, teacher and author due to his articles which have appeared in various religious publications. He has conducted campaigns in 25 denominations and in many of the largest gospel tabernacles in Canada and America.
Meetings will be held each evening, except Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. They will continue from Jan. 23 to Feb. 4.
Canadian Legion To Meet in SA
Canadian Legion, Post 42, will hold an open installation of officers for 1931, Thursday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. Meeting will be at the Civic Center on W. Eighth st., in Santa Ana.
Providing colorful entertainment during the evening will be a drill team, clad in the famous Mounted Police uniform, and a bagpipe troop.
