Oddly Clothed Prowler Furnishes Litter In Philadelphia Gun Maniac Search
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police said today a report two boys had been terrified by an oddly clothed prowler may supply the first real lead to the identity of a mysterious sniper who has killed one woman and wounded at least six other persons.
James J. McCann, Jr., 14, and his younger brother; John, told police the stranger, carrying what might have been a rifle, appeared in front of their home last night while they were stringing Christmas lights on the porch.
They said the man drove up in a dark-colored late model coupe, climbed out and walked in a crouch toward the house. Even as they fled to their mother, they added, they glimpsed what the man wore—an unusually long black coat and black derby—and noticed he was medium size.
The mother, who called the police, said she saw a car pull away from the curbside a few moments later.
The McCann home is about two miles from the residential Oak Lane section in which Mrs. Claire Cohen, mother of two, was shot to death last Saturday night while SWEET PROBLEM
