Senate Passes Yugoslav Food Legislation WASHINGTON (AP)—An obvious American bid for the friendship of Marshal Tito's followers, legislation to give food to drought-stricken Yugoslavia, came before the house today. It passed the senate yesterday by a 60 to 21 vote. Passage by the house appeared certain, probably tomorrow. As passed by the senate, the bill would let the Economic Cooperative Administration (ECA) dip into its funds for up to $50,000,000 to provide food for the Yugoslavs. Quarterly reports to congress would be made by the State Department, which would have overall charge of the aid program. The house measure would authorize an appropriation of $38,000,-000 up to next June 30. ECA already has spent $12,000,000 in Yugoslavia. In recommending its approval, the House Foreign Affairs committee tied to it a requirement that Yugoslavia give "full and continuous publicity" to the United States' assistance and permit U.S. supervision of the food distribution. "Yugoslavia is a communist state," the committee said. "It is a dictatorship," and the legislation makes clear that it does not imply approval of Tito's internal policies. Slashing Case Closes as Singer Danic Refuses to Sign Complaint Against G LOS ANGELES (AP)—“I'm very happy that this mess is cleared up,” remarked the mink clad showgirl who was accused of inflicting a 35-stitch butcher knife slash across the face of negro singer Daniels. San Gabriel Kids Get Yule Snow That was all red haired Ron Quillan, 29, had to say yesterday as she left the courtroom Daniels refused to sign a complaint against her. "Yugoslavia is a communist state," the committee said. "It is a dictatorship," and the legislation makes clear that it does not imply approval of Tito's internal policies. But, the committee pointed out after citing that Tito has broken with Russia, "Yugoslavia has the strongest standing army in Europe" next to Russia and "there are political, military and strategic reasons that make this program worth the price." It said a strong Yugoslav army, "with the will to fight if attacked—and a hungry army seldom has the will—may act as a deterrent to aggression in the Balkans and a force for peace and security." The senate directed that half of the proposed food shipments to Yugoslavia be carried in American ships. San Gabriel Kids Get Yule Snow SAN GABRIEL, Calif. (UP)—This town may be in the orange blossom belt but the Chamber of Commerce has decided the kids are going to have some snow and ice before Christmas. A small snowstorm has been scheduled for Thursday in the city park as a prelude to the Yule season. Chamber officials have ordered snow machines from a Hollywood studio and 50,000 pounds of ice are being donated by a Pasadena firm. The machines will shave the ice and blowers will spread it over the ground. The snow will cover only an area about 50 by 100 feet, but San Gabriel youngsters have been invited to make snow balls, snow men and just romp around in the stuff. To complete the Christmas idea, Santa Claus is going to make a visit, dropping into the park aboard a helicopter. Rules are necessary in the game of football. They are even more necessary on the highway, because the final score may be death in an accident. The National Safety council asks motorists and pedestrians to know and obey traffic laws. And Daniels, his face swathed in bandages, said he had to be back on his $5000-a-week job in a Hollwood cabaret next week. That apparently rang down curtain on a scene which began early last Thursday morning; the white showgirl's apartment and resulted in her arrest on a picion of assault with a dead weapon. Pete Hobson is one North Korean Premier Urges Troops To Push American Forces into Seoul MOSCOW (AP)—The Moscow press today said North Korea premier Kim Il Sung has ordered his forces and Chinese fighters to push American Armies in Korea into the sea. In a statement to the Korean people, reported fully by Soviet newspapers, Kim Il Sung called for "vengeance and death to American armed interventionists and death to the treasonous gang of (South Korean president) Syngman Rhee." The premier told his forces not to give the Americans time to regroup and form a new defense line, but to push forward, pressing the advantage gained in their recent victories in North Korea. Kim Il Sung's statement was interpreted by observers here as indicating that there is no question of his forces stopping at the 38th Parallel or anywhere else in Korea, until all American forces in that country have been completely destroyed or driven out. U.S. embassy officials were reported studying the statement carefully. The North Korean premier called for a general armed uprising throughout all Korea against the Americans. He ordered Koreans to annihilate the enemy wherever they found him. He declared: "Before is the open road to final victory. But we must remember that on this road there will be met still all possible difficulties and barriers. "We can win final victory only in severe battle, overcoming these difficulties and making sacrifices.
