Bring Christmas To Light in Home This Year If you want your home to express all the Yuletide happiness your family feels during the Christmas holidays, plan your outdoor lighting now. Early planning not only gives you a chance to work up some new ideas, but allows time for making some of your own outdoor lighting decorations. Holiday lighting arrangements can be as individual as the family that occupies each home. They don't need to be elaborate or expensive to express your Christmas sentiments to the world. A careful study of the architectural lines of your house may provide the theme of your outdoor lighting decorations. Three natural peaks on the roof of a house suggest an ideal background for three giant Christmas tree outlines. Strings of colored outdoor lights are fastened to the house in the form of a Christmas tree and each topped with a lighted star. The complete design is held together with the lighted greeting. There are many types of lighted signs which you can use to express your holiday greetings. If you have a basement workshop you may want to fashion your own. Simply cut each letter of the greeting from composition board; mount on weatherproof material for the rib- giant Christmas tree outlines. Simply cut each letter of the greeting from composition board; mount on a shallow trough-like frame and mount lights behind each letter. Novel Arrangement New home owners will enjoy the novelty of tying the front of their house like a Christmas package. Use red oilcloth or other weatherproof material for the ribbon effect and mount a composition board "gift" tag with a "Merry Christmas" message above the door. Or, the Yuletide spirit carried to the windows where a pair of black and white composition board snowmen were fastened to each shutter. To give the decorations the effect of a package tied in crisp white tissue paper, light with 150-watt floodlights concealed behind the shrubbery. A spotlight, placed in front of the tree to the right of the door is airied toward the greeting card to make its message clearly visible. Some 5000 natives of the Ryukyu islands now worship at 25 Christian churches of various denominations. ANAHEIM TRUCK & TRANSFER CO. MOVING - STORAGE General Trucking —PHONE 2123— 505 S. Fill the mug with ale and sprinkle grated nutmeg on top. In Britain the nutmeg is passed around so that each person can season his own ale. Special Events Light SoCal Yule Season SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Glad tidings for holiday travellers in California have come from the Travel and Recreation department of the State Chamber of Commerce. Special Holiday programs, pageants, community parties, festivals, Christmas displays, and traditional observances and religious services in missions and churches will highlight the holiday season throughout the state. The world famous 62nd Annual Tournament of Roses in Pasadena on Jan. 1, preceding the California-Michigan football game in the Rose Bowl, and the annual Shrine East-West Game in San Francisco Dec. 30 are top New Year's weekend attractions. Orange county visitors will be greeted by "40 miles of Christmas Shrines" Dec. 18-25 in the county's coastal towns from Seal Beach to San Clemente. In Beverly Hills, Dec. 22 to Jan. 1, movie stars and other residents compete for top Yuletide display honors with decorations at their homes, part of the "Christmas Nights" celebration started by Mary Pickford. From Dec. 16 to Dec. 25 Christ- Top Self and Christmas Spirit Alive Safety Council Plea to Motorists Cans were asked today to be the year-end holidays going themselves and the spirit alive this year. Bolea launched the National Council's Christmas safety campaign, in which 161 nautical organizations are cooperating. Campaign is aimed at reducing the increasing number of accidents throughout the nation. Emphasis will be placed on accidents, which have taken a hardward swing this year. C deaths for the first nine of 1950 were up 11 per cent and the Council predicts traffic death toll for the virtually certain to reach this would be the highest 41 and the only year since show an increase. Christmas - New Year's season is the peak acci-iod of the year," said Ned Garborn, president of the "and traffic accidents the most acute problem." Travel and the festive of the season always add normal winter hazards of father, slippery roads and hours of darkness. More people will be trav-isis year," he said. "Service and women will be coming in holiday leaves—and some will be traveling to mil-amps to spend the holidays those who cannot come "This increased travel calls for extra caution on everybody's part. If everyone will take a little more time during the holiday rush—just enough to be careful when driving on the highway or crossing streets and in recreational and home activities — everyone will be assured of a much happier Christmas and New Year's. "Don't let death take your holiday—or anyone else's," Mr. Dearborn urged. Use Flower Boxes For Yule Lightup Have you ever thought of including your flower boxes in your holiday decorating theme? Stationary porch and window boxes, aglow with "lighter flowers" can become a high spot for even the simplest holiday decorating motif. To make the flowers, lighting specialist suggest that you fashion petal-like reflectors and place them behind colored bulbs to give a more realistic effect. You can use either 25-watt or 10-watt bulbs in outdoor sockets. Prop the bulbs in position with wire. Complete the boxes, with feathery sprays of Scotch pine. Garlands of lighted greens around the doorway and strings of colored lights form a center of interest. A 25-watt colored bulb in the lamp post adds the final touch of holiday spirit. In Beverly Hills, Dec. 22 to Jan. 1, movie stars and other residents compete for top Yuletide display honors with decorations at their homes, part of the "Christmas Nights" celebration started by Mary Pickford. From Dec. 16 to Dec. 25 Christmas Tree Lane in Los Angeles Exposition park will feature 34 daily-lighted Christmas trees, each some 60 feet high. Also in Southern California, visitors to the Mission San Gabriel on Christmas Eve may carry candles in a procession from the mission to the mission playhouse in the civic auditorium, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Two traditional Spanish plays will be presented in the playhouse.
