Bad Weather Hampers North Valencia Harvest
Unfavorable weather in the Central-Northern naval producing area of California again hampered the harvest of oranges in that vicinity and shipments were consequently at an extremely light level the week ending Dec. 2. Shippers were unable to move out the allotted prorate of 850 cars set for the week and the unshipped prorate will be carried over into the week ending Dec. 9 and added to the 1100 car naval movement set by the Orange Administrative Committee for Central-Northern California.
Arizona naval shippers expected to fully move the 175 cars allotted by the committee for that area during the week ending Dec. 2. A movement of 200 cars was established for the Desert shippers next week.
Sales of California oranges were still light due to lack of supplies in the eastern markets. The few available cars of California-Arizona navels sold at very good prices and met ready acceptance by the trade. Quality of the fruit was reported extremely good in all markets. It is expected the heavier arrivals due next week will be in strong demand at a continued satisfactory price level.
Demand for California lemons was quite active during the week ending Dec. 2 with sales slightly ahead of the previous week at about a 65 cents a box lower level. Some increase in respiratory ailments was reported in those markets hit by the first blizzard of the early part of the week but health was generally normal for this time of year. Prorate for the week ending Dec. 9 was set at 225 cars by the Lemon Administrative committee, a reduction of 50 cars from the current week.
The Black Hills of South Dakota are covered with dark pine woods.

OPEN HOUSE—This newly furnished model home at 617 South Palm will feature open house this week in conjunction with the Lifetime Home Company's "Veterans' week." The home is typical of the three-bedroom houses being reserved for "veterans only" at the company's tracts here and in Fullerton. The remaining homes at the two locations are the company's last to be sold to ex-GI's for the "no-down-payment" contract, the builders explained.
Builder Opens Homes for Vets This Week
The opening of a newly furnished model Lifetime Home at 617 So. Palm street here proclaims December 2 until 10 as "Veterans' Week" at the home tracts at Water street between West and Palm streets, officials of the company revealed today.
"We want every veteran interested in living in Anaheim to see this home this week," the Lifetime Homes President, Henry C. Cox, announced. The week, according to Cox, has been set aside to give veterans their final chance in 1950 to buy one of the three bedroom Lifetime Homes for no down payment.
"Already, the company has sold nearly 1000 homes in the county and almost all of them to veterans. Veteran purchasers have made thousands of dollars in profits due to increase in realty values and our present rising economy visualizes even greater profits ahead," Cox forecasted. The homes are the last being offered to ex-GI's on the no-money-down contract, the builders said.
"Many veterans are confused by new controls, the tract official said, 'and we want to make it clear that they may still live in their own home in Anaheim for 'nothing down' by showing this new model home to veterans all this week."
City Judge Celia W. Young, of Huntington Beach, today had filed suit in Superior Court for a divorce from Carl Franklin Young, whom she charged with cruelty and failure to provide.
She asks custody of their two daughters, aged five and four, also a division of community property which includes a residence, household furnishing, two cars, and a partnership interest in the Lake Meade Seaplane co.
