For Results and Quick 7 Anaheim Gazette MONDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1950 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA NATIVITY GROUP—The beautiful story of Christmas as portrayed by a life-size Nativity group may be viewed from now through December at the Covered Wagon camp at Knott's Berry Farm. Dramatically lightened, the group takes on added significance with the Old Timer's narrative of the Christmas story in true western style and the playing of Christmas music. Santa Claus will visit the Wagon camp each evening except Monday, to talk to all of his young friends. Walter Knott extends a cordial invitation to everyone to visit this beautiful Christmas display which will be shown every evening except Monday. Draft First Item On Minor’s Agenda ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The 49th annual minor league convention opened today with the player draft the first important topic to be tackled. The gigantic lottery in which some 5000 players were up for selection for bids ranging from $6500 to $400, began with only the triple, double and single A leagues making their picks. Class B and C clubs will have their turn tomorrow. High on the agenda once the draft is out of the way will be the bonus rule. Best informed opinion is that the controversial law is doomed. A proposal to amend the high school rule that forbids contacting high school players until they or their class has graduated, has lots of backing. The proposed amendment would have club representatives approach the players during their senior year. Jones, with their applause. Monkey Business Stan Jones, sports editor of the Weekly Torch, was blushing last Thursday when he discovered the Pasadena-Long Beach basketball game was played not in the City of Roses but in L. B., instead. Why the blush . . . well, it seems he told Coach Alex Omalex, that the game was at Pasadena and that's where the coach went—all set to see the encounter. Season Opener The first game of the basketball season for the Hornets brought in a loss to the Pasadena Bulldogs, but with time and experience the Hornets will show their winning colors. On the starting lineup are two well-known Anaheimers, Joe Eruce and Henry Sieffin. Don Ames, also from Anaheim, is scheduled to see action too. Tuesday is the next night game of the basketballers and they are slated to meet Long Beach in the local gym. Friday, December 8, they will meet Compton's team at 9:00 p.m. on the latter's court. State support of the two public school levels in the county this year includes $3,032,491 for elementary school districts and $935,874 for high schools. It is based on 27,100 average daily attendance for the elementary schools and 8777 for the high school districts in the county. Throughout California, state support of public schools is budgeted at $230,262,545 for 1950-51. This includes $210,580,600 for support of public elementary and high schools and junior college districts, $335,097 for vocational education, $16,650,000 for the state teachers retirement system, and $2,696,848 for free textbooks. These figures do not include state support of child care centers or funds for construction from the $250,000,000 state school loan fund. In addition to state support, public school districts also collect relatively large sums in property taxes. Statewide property tax levy for schools 1949-50 reached $292,-183,623, the association pointed out. Statewide data for 1950-51 are not yet available. Average daily attendance base for the 1950-51 state apportionment to public elementary and high school districts in California is 1,623,890 and includes 1,203,-342 elementary and 420,548 high school average daily attendance. Tuesday is the next night game of the basketballers and they are slated to meet Long Beach in the local gym. Friday, December 8, they will meet Compton's team at 9:00 p.m. on the latter's court. Drafty Many familiar faces aren't seen around the campus and the likelihood of many more being gone by January creates a gloomy atmosphere around FJC. The question "To join...or wait to be drafted?" is one of the main questions of the day among the men. Girls too, seem to be taking advantage of the jobs now open and so the present upset in world conditions also is reflected in college life...and in the lives of the students, who are directly involved.
