for standardizing of terminology,
observing the watchword of civil defense apparatus, "uniformity."
The idea, Crowley explained, is to duplicate national, state, regional civil defense functions all down the line to make for immediate and absolute coordination in time of emergency.
To illustrate, Crowley used an allegory. We want civilian defense groups at each level to each have a deck of cards, he said. And each card in each deck will be duplicated at each level.
Stressing the need for inter-area coordination, Crowley pointed out that geographically, Orange county would be on call to aid either San Diego or Los Angeles in time of emergency. Both areas, he stated, are major targets, and Orange county is situated so as to be responsible for transmitting aid to either or both in time of stress. This, he indicated, will necessitate careful preparedness.
Coordination with the Los Angeles area was further stressed by Willis Warner, chairman of the county board of supervisors. Warner asked for immediate cooperation with Los Angeles officials.

additional funds will step up the military program so that the over-all objective, which was to be reached in 1953 will be attained in 1952.
President Truman told them, they said, that he will have a large military budget to lay before the new Congress in January. He did not specify that amount.
They also said it was their understanding that changes in the draft law, to increase the military manpower, may be suggested later, but that it was not mentioned at today's meeting, nor was there any discussion of all-out mobilization of industry.
At the Capitol there were prompt predictions from many legislators that Congress will provide the money, speedily.

Coordination with the Los Angeles area was further stressed by Willis Warner, chairman of the county board of supervisors. Warner asked for immediate cooperation with Los Angeles officials defense in order to get civil defense preparations completed as soon as possible. Warner also asked that the county be accorded some sort of representation on the newly formed Civil Defense Planning Board in the interest of facilitating expedition of the defense job.
The meeting last night was attended by representatives of ten Orange county cities. Cities there included Anaheim, Fullerton, Huntington Beach, La Habra, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, San Clemente and Santa Ana.
The Buddah Best Produce Market, 8961 S. Stanton ave., has been purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bastian for twenty cents where they would make the daily business.
With their three sons, Robert, Harold and Frank, who will also work in the market, and their 13 year old daughter, Patsy, they plan on making their home in Anaheim. They will have a grand opening this weekend.
Thirty members and husbands enjoyed a turkey dinner Saturday evening at the Sunshine & Shower clubhouse, 8202 Starr st. This is an annual occasion, according to the president, Mrs. Milton Hasell.
Mr. Hasell is confined to their home, 7922 E. First st., with a heart allment and could not attend.
Mrs. Bertha Maloney's great grandson, Bill Mills from Seal Beach, accompanied her as special guest.

she had seen cats running through the yard with chicken heads in their mouths.
Clements said that he was careful when he slaughtered birds, that cats belonging to Martin stalked his chickens and bit their heads off when they stuck them outside the cages.
Martin said he didn't own any cats.
Talk then switched to chicken droppings.
Mrs. Bastian said she had seen them stacked up two and one-half feet high under the cages.
Clements said the cages were only 18 inches off the ground.
Besides he maintained, up to a certain point, the heavier the deposit the loss odor and flies resulted due to drying action. He said poultry fashions would back him up at this statement.

Culmone Now Eyes All-Time Record
Jockey Joe Culmone, already holder of the modern day one-season riding record, set his sights today on Walter Miller's all-time mark of 385 winners set in 1906. Through yesterday Culmone has 354. He has one month left to get the 35 winners necessary to shatter Miller's mark.
Little Joe rode two winners at Bowie yesterday while his nearest rival, Willie Shoemaker, was blanked for the second straight day at Hollywood. Culmone, who several weeks ago trailed Shoemaker by seven, now leads Willie by ten.
Charles to Hold Slight Weight Edge
CINCINNATI (A)—It looks as if Heavyweight Champ Ezzard Charles will go into his title bout here Tuesday night against Nick Barone of Syracuse with a weight advantage of three or four pounds. If he does, it will be the first time in two years the sharp-shooting Charles has been on the heavy end of the weights.
The 15 - round scrap between Charles and Barone had to be post-poned from last Tuesday until next week because of the heavy snowstorm which made the streets hazardous.
