Social and Club Activities Pat Terrebonne—2206 Anaheim High School Graduate Tells Engagement Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Williard McCody, 400 E. Birch st., Brea, announce the engagement of their daughter, Dorothy, to Arthur Rozell, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rozell, Sr., of Gridley, Calif. The McCoys lived at 6072 E. Lincoln ave., Cypress, for five years, while Dorothy graduated from the eighth grade at Centralia school and Anaheim Union High school. Since graduating from Occidental college in Los Angeles, last year where she met her fiance, Dorothy has been teaching third grade at Corona Del Mar. Rozell, Jr., attended Torrance high school. He has returned to Occidental to take a masters degree in history. When he finishes in June the couple plan to be married. His relatives from the East and Texas will attend the wedding. Legion Auxiliary Members Attend Gift Showing Members of Anaheim American Legion Auxiliary attended open house at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Long Beach recently to visit patients and view the attractive array of "daddy gifts" on display here. In explaining "daddy gifts" Elvamae Jones, hospital chairman, pointed out that the gifts have been purchased and made by the auxiliary units and are taken to the veterans hospitals for selection by patients as their Christmas gifts to members of their families. Each hospitalized veteran is entitled to select one gift for his wife and one each for each of his minor children. If he has no minor children he is permitted to select gifts for three adults. The sender signs the gift card which is enclosed with his package. Presents are later wrapped and mailed by the auxiliary. Local Woman Heads Crippled Children's Relief Miss E. Kate Rea, well known Anaheim philanthropist, was named head of the Crippled Children's Relief Association of Orange county when the organization held its annual meeting at Michael Manor in Santa Ana recently. First vice presidency will be handled by James Allen Knapp, second vice, Mrs. George Briggs, treasurer, Harry Williams; secretary, Mrs. Lee D. Meyers; assistant secretary, Mrs. E. D. White; consultants, Edward Lee Russell, M.D., J. S. Blaisdell, M.D., George Butler, M.D., Mable Geddes, M.D., Paul Buss, M.D., and Miss Olmsted, P.T. Directors appointed from this city were Mrs. Tom Scott, Mrs. O. H. Renner, Miss Rea and selection by patients as their Christmas gifts to members of their families. (AP)—Santa Claus came to town yesterday and was snowballed out of a parade by a group of teen-age youngsters. Santa, dressed in a red suit and riding in a red jeep, was the chief feature of a pre-Christmas parade in this central Illinois community of about 20,000 population. It was a fine parade when it started—decorated floats, a miniature circus and bands, and Santa Claus riding near the end. He had smiled and waved to the crowds which lined the streets to watch the parade. But some 40 youngsters of about junior high school age started firing snowballs at some other pupils who were in the parade. Then Santa became the main target. BABY RECOVERING FROM MAJOR OPERATION Constance Marie Schmidt, three month old Anaheim infant, is recovering in St. Joseph hospital following a major operation, her mother, Mrs. R. R. Schmidt said today. The baby was operated on Wednesday night for an intestinal disorder which manifest itself in serious fashion Wednesday morning, her mother said. Bradford Trenham, general manager of the California Tax-payers' assn., will be the speaker at the Anaheim Kiwanis club noon meeting, Dec. 5. He will speak on “No Crystal Ball for Taxes.” Mr. Trenham, a graduate of the University of Arizona and a Rhodes Scholar, has had wide experience in the field of taxation. He is the author of numerous articles on taxation, education, population, and travel, and has a considerable reputation as a speaker on public affairs and at radio forums. Fernandez of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania will speak at the Bethel Baptist church Brotherhood dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Born in Spain, Mr. Fernandez entered the Dominican Order when he was 12 and received his education in a Spanish monastery. He came to the United States in 1921 to study theology in New Orleans, and was ordained a priest in 1924. In New Orleans he became an assistant pastor and later a pastor of one of the largest Roman Catholic churches. In 1939 he left the priesthood and entered the army. Shortly thereafter, he accepted Christ as the Saviour. He then decided to become a Presbyterian minister. In 1945 he was ordained by the Presbytery of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He received his master's degree in theology from Princeton Theological Seminary, became pastor of the Robert Graham Memorial Presbyterian church in Philadelphia, and recently completed all requirements for the degree of Doctor of Sacred Theology at Temple University school of Theology.
