Anaheim Gazette by JOHN S. NEUBAUER NEWSWEEK—Jupiter Pluvius used his sprinkling can liberally over Anaheim and its environs. More than an inch of rain dampened the parched, wind-dried earth... Anaheim has one doctor for each 725 people; Laguna Beach one for each 515; Fullerton one to 660; Santa Ana-Tustin-Orange have one to 556, Orange County Medical Ass'n figures show... A three-point petition signed by 19 Anaheimers was presented to the Chamber of Commerce and the City Council. Petitioners, headed by Dr. Edward Jordt and Dr. Dorothy Jordt objected primarily to the community fair feature of the Annual Hallowe'en Festival. Warren Ashleigh answered the petitioners by saying "more than 65 per cent of the gross receipts of the fair would be kept in Anaheim." "The situation in Korea is definitely worse than we thought it would be one month ago," Adm. Arthur Radford told newspapermen at Los Alamitos Naval Air Station. High Navy officers were at the station for the fourth annual inspection. Vice-Adm. John D. Price, chief of Naval Air Training; Rear Adm. A. K. Doyle, chief of Naval Reserve Air Christmas Seals Make Appearance Three "angel" children, one singing from a scroll of music as the others play musical accompaniments, are featured on the green-and-red 1950 Christmas Seal which will make its appearance in homes and business offices all over the nation today. Harry L. Hanson, general Chairman for Orange county, stated that the quota for 1950 is $40,000.00, the minimum needed to carry out the Association's program for prevention and control of Tuberculosis next year. "This is the only appeal for funds made by the association" said Hanson. "and there is no personal solicitation. Contributions are entirely voluntary." The Orange County League ended in a three-way tie between Tustin, Laguna and Garden Grove; A phone ballot of the six schools was taken today to determine which team will represent the league in the CIF playoffs. Stewart S. (Shorty) Smith's Brea-Olinda Wildcats "upset" Capistrano, 21-14: Erv Pfister, 215-pound fullback, was the man of the hour... Fullerton won the Sunset League championship by beating Santa Ana, 19-6. The Indians will play San Diego Friday in the CIF playoff. SPORTSWEEK — Sammy Reymundo scored 19 points as John Tynes' Valencia Bees smoothered Garden Grove, 40-0, to win the County Bee Football title. The Placentians rolled up 343 points (223 in league games) to exactly none for the opposition. Reymundo scored 149 of them. With Bob Ferguson romping 109 yards to a touchdown, Tex Oliver's win-hungry Hornets beat San Berdoo, 28-18, in a game in which Anaheim's Larry Weaver turned in a 75-yard scoring sprint. Santa Ana's Dons who'll play at Fullerton Thursday, beat Orange Coast, 27-20. In a thrill-a-minute ball game, Clare Van Hoorebeke's Colonists beat Orange, 26-19 before a home-coming crowd at Orange. It will be wedding bells for Paul Peterson and Rosemary Corliss... Jame Kerwin, the home builder, and Roberta Tardif of Santa Ana will say their vows... Ygnacio Avilla and Ruth Castillo are altar bound... Death came to Richard T. Jones in the 87th year of his life. He was an Arizonaian who annually wintered in California... Benjamin Appling, 61, died after a brief illness. He was a telephone company employee for 30 years and lived in Anaheim for the past 16 years... Mrs. Myrtle Rawlings, 69, died after a brief illness. ANAHEIM Home New Homes set Available to Veterans Despite a growing scarcity of homes in Orange county due to recent credit restrictions, veterans who have decided "this is the place to live" may still select homes from a few tracts in the county on no-money-down terms. This was revealed today by officials of Lifetime Homes here who disclosed they are still offering a limited number of homes to veterans on the "old terms" in both Anaheim and Fullerton. "By old terms," an official said, "we mean the nothing down contract and the easy 20 year loan for veterans which have since been curtailed by new restrictions." The few homes still being offered in Anaheim and Fullerton were started before the restrictions went into effect. The remaining homes offer a selection of floor plaster design and features.
