CENTRAL DISPLAY—Carl Reinert, Anaheim garden expert, examines begonia plant under apricot tree which forms the central point of his artfully arranged backyard. Reinert lays emphasis on design and color, rather than types at hand, in his botanic wonderland. Los Angeles St. Phone Anaheim 3304 Jr. C of C Starts Member Drive Members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce last night launched a year's end membership to bolster ranks already uped 50 per cent by a recent recruiting effort. Beginning as of last night, the drive will continue until the first meeting of the group in January, 1951. For the drive, the club was divided into two teams. Per agreement, the losing team at the end of the drive will fete the winning team. Captains for the rival factions are Kenny Banks and Wes Osborne. Speaker at last night's meeting was Gordon Chamberlain, general manager of the Hellyer Buick Company. Chamberlain chose for his topic, "Service," and its growing importance in the world of today. Service is the thing which makes men and nations rise or fall, Chamberlain said. An integral part of it is people. And how individual people determine and carry out their particular missions in life determines the caliber of service they produce and hence their specific achievements he said. Chamberlain, chairman of the Slick Chick contest during this year's Hallowe'en season, prefaced his talk with remarks on the recent criticisms of the Anaheim event. He termed critical accusations as unfortunate, attributed them primarily to lack of information on the part of the critics. Election day chairman Ralph Osborn reported a successful get out the vote campaign on the part of the Junior Chamber. All calls from voters wishing transportation to the polls were handled, Osborn said. Best Wishes for SUCCESS TO OUR NEIGHBOR, THE NEW BETTY ROSE SHOP The beautiful new Betty Rose Shop is a definite asset to the business district of Anaheim. The Anaheim Gazette Color Combinations, Not Names, Guide Anaheim Garden Designer’s Selections By Anita Robertson and Pat Terrebonne Freshening rain has brought out the exotic coloring in one of Anaheim's loveliest gardens. Carl Reinert, 219 N. Helena st., has worked many months on this hobby garden of his and the results are striking. In contrast to the average garden hobbies who often becomes so involved in technical names and varieties of his plants that he overlooks the fact that beauty should be the foremost consideration, Reinert doesn't trouble himself to memorize the Latin names of his various specimens but devotes most of his attention to the overall effect of the combined colors and types. His scrapbook is filled with clippings recording his success in local yard beautification contests, quite a feat considering the fact that he has resided at his present address for little more than two years.
