Youngest Tot to Survive Delicate Heart Operation Ready for Release
ST. LOUIS (P)—The case of the youngest child ever to undergo successful surgery for a usually-fatal heart condition in infants was reported today.
Dr. Chester P. Lynxwiler of St. Louis University School of Medicine told the Southern Medical association an 11-weeks-old girl, operated on last week, is now ready for discharge from St. Mary's hospital here.
The primary condition involved was coarctation, or virtual blockage of the main heart artery—complicated by a growing failure of blood-pumping vessels within the child's tiny heart. The blockage phase is a congenital condition in some infants—that is, they develop it while still in the mother's womb. Its cause is unknown.
Of the children which develop such a blockage in the first half year of life, the doctor said, about 90 per cent die within the year.
Attempts at surgical correction in such cases have failed to prevent death in all instances except the St. Louis one and possibly one other on which he has a hear-say report, the doctor asserted.
Doctor Lynxwiler said the St. Louis child, Linda Weber, has the prospect of a normal life expectancy as far as heart trouble is concerned.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Sidney Smith of St. Louis.

NOTICE OF TRUSTEE'S SALE

Moore, as trustee substituted in the place and stead of Southwest Title and Tax Company in that substitution of trustee recorded August 11, 1950, in Book 2054 at page 386 of the Official Records of Orange County, California, under that deed.
SPORTOPIX—Placentia thinks a lot of its able head of athletics, John Tynes, whose Valencia Bees are making Orange county football history. They appointed him to the city council to replace Ray Chiles, the tonsorial artist who in turn was appointed to serve out the unexpired term of Kenny Freel, the banker who resigned shortly after being elected.
Stewart S. (Shorty) Smith, the Brea-Olinda football tutor, and Duke Osborne told the North Anaheim (uh-huh, that's still Fullerton) that the 55 points scored by the Fullerton high school was the highest total since 1921 when an Indian team dumped Anaheim, 109-0. . . Herman Schacht, the Anaheim telephone man, really started something when he uncovered the past. . . Duane Pennington, powerfully-built Buena Park youngster, may be leading the Sunset league scoring parade, but Anaheim's little Augie Huesca is right in there pitching. He's scored 25 points, three less than the league leader. . . Jewell Owens, an Anaheimer playing his football for Fullerton, is tied for third. Leonard Weaver and John

FOOTNOTE—Bill Cook, the one-time Anaheim grid great who does his coaching at Santa Ana knows when he's well off. Little Bill has had numerous opportunities to "step up" as it were. But the Little Napoleon of jaysee football is interested—but not too interested. He's happy to dominate the jaysee football picture in his own back yard. Cook was a candidate for the New Mexico job when Ted Shipkey got it. Cook was considered for the University of Arizona post when Tex Oliver moved up. It seems that the former Anaheimer is being polite. He listens to the offers and then graciously declines them. He's much happier by being the big frog in a small puddle; than a small frog about to be grilled.
