Noted Humorist Entertains Anaheim
Ebell Club with Talk on Adventure
Under Bob Ringer's brisk and satirical humor there lies a sound formula for alleviating the monotony of everyday living, and Ebell members who heard him at yesterday's meeting left the auditorium a little wiser as well as highly entertained.
"Anything for a Laugh" was an apt title for the address in which he outlined a series of bizarre departures from form for getting out of awkward encounters with the police, answering clichés, and conducting oneself in an elevator.
Ringer recommended a ready answer for such stock questions as "Hot Enough for You?" said that having an unusual answer for "tired" old phrases will at once brand you as an interesting person and throw your opponent off guard.
Operating on the formula that there is adventure in everything, he advised twisting the most average experiences around to cast them in a different and interesting light. "I've been bluffing my way through life since I was in the seventh grade," he said.
Summary of Ringer's witty speech was contained in his statement, "You don't have to be rich, you don't have to be smart to have adventure."
In introducing the speaker Mrs. W. E. Whiteman, program chairman, described him as one of the ten top speakers in the United States and discussed briefly his streaking rise to fame since coming to California in 1945.
she said that the true meaning of the holiday is often lost and recommended that it be a day for summing up the benefits we enjoy in the United States. In conclusion she urged that on Thanksgiving Day we extend our table to a stranger away from home, a soldier, a sailor or marine.
It was announced that Letha Hammond and Naomi Sell will exhibit Friday in the art showing in Garden Grove for the county federation meeting.
Mrs. Arthur Roquet reported on the Ebell Hallowe'en float and thanked members who assisted and participated in the parade.
New members introduced by Mrs. Claude Slack were Mrs. Max Besler, Mrs. Peter Palm, Mrs. Irving Donahue. Reinstated was Mrs. Jess Lutzinger.
Mrs. Paul Demaree and Mrs. Ellen Cailor were chairmen of the luncheon with autumnal decorations arranged by Mrs. F. E. Charles and Mrs. H. A. Johnston.
Cakes made with butter or margarine should usually be allowed to cool in their pans for five minutes before they are turned out on a wire rack; and cooled thoroughly. A cake should never be frosted while it is warm.

She urged her listeners to give thanks for the many things Anaheim offers, the schools, parks, comfortable homes, competent city leaders and many other things often taken for granted.

Instant choice of any heat
...GAS HAS GOT IT!
IF YOU want to save time, you'll welcome the speed of modern gas cookery. Take top burners, for example. When you turn on the top burner of an automatic gas range, you have instant heat. Any of a thousand or more heats, too, from full flame for fast boiling to mere pinpoints of flame for keeping foods warm. This visible flame heat eliminates guesswork. You can always see exactly how much heat you have...can immediately obtain the right temperature every food. And when you turn gas down there's no lingering heat to cause boil-off or scorching.
The best way to enjoy the many exclusive advantages of gas is in a new automatic range. See the new models at dealers your Gas Company. Look for the one fits your family needs. You'll find that costs less to buy, less to operate.

Hornets will be keeping theirses to the grindstone this week and the library will be the center attraction instead of the Hive. For now is the time of quarter examinations. Grand Central Station would be an apt title for the library. It seems everyone always has some last minute reference work that must be done in addition to some hurried oramming.

Petitions for Turkey Day Queen candidates will be signed by 50 members of the student body, aled and delivered by Wednesday, Nov. 15. The following Friday is the day set aside for electing the queen, who will reign over the special day's activities including the Santa Ana-Fullerton football game.
