Los Angeles st. offices of Morris Realty co. and Morris Insurance Agency Saturday to attend opening celebration. Above, Paul Garber signs the guest book. Looking on are Mrs. Gene G. Mahaffey, Mrs. James L. Morris, E. W. Bullock, Mrs. Thelma Schueller, James L. Morris of the insurance agency and Gene G. Mahaffey of the real estate company. Challenge (Continued from Page 4) Jage of Fatima in Portugal. Six times in consecutive months, from May to October, she came to them and spoke to them. Stated unequivocally the conditions which (Political Advertisement) On his recordElect Edmund G. (Pat) ATTORNEY GENERAL The ONLY Candidate With EXPERIENCE... the leading candidate—backed by a million voters in the primaries This advertisement paid for by friends of Pat Brown in our community must be fulfilled as indispensable for lasting world peace. What she said to the children has very grave meaning for us, because her message bears on the present world situation, in which our own country is very deeply involved. It is urgent that we Americans know and take to heart every word she spoke at Fatima. World Conflict Our Christian culture, our God-given rights, our Constitutional liberties as Americans, our very continuance as a free country are all threatened by the most insidious foe either the Nation or the Church has ever had to face. The conflict is between contradictory philosophies of life, Christianity and communism; and it is world-wide. There can be and will be no world peace until the evil power of communism, centered in Russia, has been subdued. That is what the Mother of Christ warned at Fatima. The undeviating effort of communism is to snake its way into every nation until the whole world, through the venom of lies, treachery, and terror, eventually succeeds to its totalitarian and atheistic dominion. With deceit, cunning and violence, it has taken over one country after another and ruthless persecution of the church has followed each seizure. Trustful and gullible in the past, we Americans now find ourselves betrayed by its hypocrisy, frustrated by its violation of agreements, and subjected to vicious outbursts of hatred and vilification in its press and over its radio. We are aware of its sinister scheme to undermine our government by shrewd propaganda in our own press and cinema, by infiltration into labor unions, governmental bureaus, and secret defense projects, by development of fellow-travelers, party cells, and fifth column, and finally, if and when attemptable, by revolution and civil war. We know how it has thwarted every effort for settlement of the peace by its intransigence and persistent use of the veto. We have the evidence that American democracy and Russian bolshevism cannot mi- or work together. Compromise and appeasement would invite national disaster. Communism is subversive and destructive of all religion. When ever it has gained power, it has persecuted the church with fiendish hatred. Churches, monasteries convents, and schools have been destroyed or turned to profanity use. In its purpose and methods, communism is diabolical. In it hatred of the Supreme Being and its antagonism to the church, it is Satan himself. In its duplicity and subversion, it is the serpent who is again leading man astray from God by false hopes and whose power must be crushed by the Mother of our Divine Savior At Fatima she promised to do this. Mary's Promise At first, her promise was contingent on the fulfillment of requests she would come back to ask, "If my requests are granted," she said, "Russia will be converted and there will be peace." If they are not granted, Russia will spread her errors through the world, inciting wars and persecutions against the church." Her requests were not granted. As she predicted, World War I came with its tremendous loss of human lives and human souls. Aftermath of hunger and displacement, the annihilation of nations, the spread of communism and the persecution of the church. All this, she said, would be the punishment of God upon the world for its crimes. The punishment continues for peace has not come. World War II is not over. It is still smoldering and communism is waiting the opportune moment to fan it into another world conflagration. Russia is fomenting wars, as we see in the hot war in China and the cold war of the Berlin blockade. The church is relentlessly persecuted. After predicting the spread of communism, Our Lady made her promise absolute. "In the end," she said, "my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, Russia will be converted, and there will be a certain period of peace." She did not say how or when this conversion would be accomplished.
