Shaw Willed to Die Say Friends
AYOT ST. LAWRENCE, Eng.—(AP)—The close friends and nurses who saw George Bernard Shaw in the closing days of his life agreed today the old sage willed himself to die.
Last Tuesday he turned to Gwendoline Howell, one of his two nurses, and said "you are only trying to keep me alive to preserve me as a curiosity. I've finished. I am going to die."
Then he lapsed into coma. And at dawn yesterday, he did die.
Several times in his last months he had shown that death would be a welcome visitor to his cottage. Last July, writing birthday wishes to 80-year-old author Hilaire Belloc, Shaw said to Belloc's daughter:
"Tell Hilaire that if he still wants to live to 100 he won't when he is 94. I am longing for my eternal rest."
Shaw was 94 on July 26—the day before Belloc's 80th birthday.
After he returned to his home from a hospital five weeks ago, he begged to be allowed to die.
"I am weary—utterly weary of everything," he said to a nurse. "I want most intensely to die."

No Down Payment Homes Still Available To Prospective Buyers Says Builders
Credit restrictions on new homes that went into effect early in October have been confusing to many prospective home buyers in the county, and two points were stressed today by builder, Henry C. Cox in an effort to clear up this misunderstandings.
The controls curtailing no down-payment homes for veterans effective October 12, Cox stressed, applies only to the builders. If homes were started—or approved—before that deadline they may still be offered to veterans without a down payment and on the old terms, Cox assured.
The main problem for GI's now, according to the county builder, is for veterans who have not availed themselves of the opportunity to purchase a home without a down payment to decide immediately if they want a home of their own.
No down-payment homes for veterans are still available in Orange county, Cox revealed, and pointed to the Lifetime Homes in Anaheim and Fullerton as examples.
"However," Cox stated, "These homes are selling fast and they will be the last offered by Lifetime on the no down payment basis to veterans."
GOP Swing to Brown Prediction
Large numbers of men in Orange county are going for Edmund G. (Pat) California's new Attorney General.
This was predicted by Dick White, manager of partisan Brown committee torney general in Oran after a county-wide survey.
"A glance at last mary vote will show that polled nearly one million the Democratic and Republican tickets, 138,124 more than the runner-up, his proponent," White said.
This trend, he added, pected to continue in next day's election.
White added in his that in June, Brown choice in 26 counties of publican ticket, three ties than his opponent.
Babe Ruth led the League 13 times in slug centage and Rogers Hoyt times topped the Nation in the same department.

GOP Swing to Brown Predicted
Large numbers of republicans in Orange county are going to vote for Edmund G. (Pat) Brown as California's new Attorney General.
This was predicted today by Dick White, manager of the bipartisan Brown committee for attorney general in Orange county, after a county-wide survey.
"A glance at last June's primary vote will show that Brown polled nearly one million votes on the Democratic and Republican tickets, 138,124 more votes than the runner-up, his present opponent," White said.
This trend, he added, is expected to continue in next Tuesday's election.
White added in his prediction that in June, Brown was first choice in 26 counties on the Republican ticket, three more counties than his opponent carried.
Babe Ruth led the American League 13 times in slugging percentage and Rogers Hornsby nine times topped the National League in the same department.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE TOPIC 'ADAM AND FALLEN MAN'
"Adam and Fallen Man" will be the Sunday Lesson-Sermon subject in all branches of the Mother Church, The First Church of Christ Scientist, in Boston. The Golden Text, chosen from Hosea, reads, "O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity."
According to John's Gospel, when the disciples saw the man that was born blind, they said unto Jesus, "Master," who did sm, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither had this man sinned, nor his parents: but that one works on Gou should be made manifest in him . . . And he anointed the eyes of the blind man with clay. And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam . . . He went his way thereore, and washed, and came seeing.
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: Mary Baker Eddy says, "Knowing that Soul and its attributes were forever manifested through man, the Master healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, feet to the lame, thus bringing to light the scientific action of the divine Mind on human minds

At a recent homecoming held there in her honor more than 2000 people were in attendance.
For years Mrs. Walling has been interested in gospel work among the American Indians and at present she and her husband are supervising a mission among the Indians at Gallup.
She has had a wide experience as an evangelist and brings to the local pulpit a rich and unique ministry.

Sailing Film on AUHS Forum Slate
"Sailing to See," full color film covering the fabulous 18 month around-the-world cruise of the schooner Yankee, will provide the Monday forum program in Anaheim Union high school auditorium.
To be presented by Kirby Atterbury, crewmember and photographer, the motion pictures follow a cruise that takes its crew of youthful adventurers from Gloucester, Mass., through the South Pacific and West Indies, around the Cape of Good Hope and home.
Highlights of the cruise came in the Galapagos Islands, where 22 tons of tuna were boated; seeing the mysterious stone figures of Easter Island; visiting "Bounty" descendants of Pitcairn; participating in native holidays on Pago Pago; sailing the world's biggest outrigger canoe at Tarawa; climbing an erupting volcano in the Solomons; crocodile hunting in New Guinea; visiting amazing Ball; and seeing Singapore.
Crew for the cruise, captained by Irving Johnson, were all amateurs and included the skipper's Lyn Richards, Kay Schmitt, Don Dawson, Tyler Cone and Jim Marshall pulled the float. Jim Marshall, who was dressed as Uncle Sam will also pull the float in the Armistice Day parade in Fullerton.

For his work as General Counsel of the National Selective Service System, Edward S. Shattuck received the Legion of Merit for “Exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service to the government of the United States.”
Mr. Shattuck's Opponent's Record of public office is marred by his continued lack of ability as an administrator and attorney.
1. Mr. Brown now owes the City of San Francisco $8,960.00 (determined by court action) for salaries paid to unqualified personnel in the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, of which he is the head.
2. Mr. Brown has only personally prosecuted one case, and lost that one in the last seven years he has been District Attorney. Not a record of success or competence for seven years of public office.
3. Mr. Brown has a record of leniency toward communism. He was a Vice-president of the National Lawyers Guild, now on the subversive list of the Congressional Un-American Activities Committee. Also in 1945, and again in 1949, he helped purjured communist Harry Bridges.
