MAIL CALL—Arthur Sandberg the retired iceman, is quite a baseball fan who likes to beckle the gentlemen of the press. Sandy has started numerous arguments with Maxwell Stiles, Braven Dyer, Bob McDonald and all the other major league typewriter pounders. Now he jumps on us.
Why is it you don't let your readers know that your friend, Ken Penner, was a member of the Cubs 1920 when they played the Athletics in the World Series?
Kind of feel proud of Ken as he played on my homeown team—the Cubs.
Saw my first world series in 1905 with Cubs-Winteo and the next one in 1910 with the Cubs-Athletics. The Cubs didn't win either series.
I never would allow any scout to sign anyone I knew to a Cardinal contract. Why put a promising ballplayer in slavery in the minor leagues?
Who are you scouting for?

This column, we'd like to have the Beans Reardon of Buena Park understand, is about folks in and about ANAHEIM in concentrated capsule form. Many of the items are boiled down to a few lines o' type. Instead of blowing up an item, we delight in boiling them down, thus utilizing the colmn's space by mentioning more people.
PRAISEWORLDY—"You write a good column; keep it up. It's one of the first things I read when I get the paper."
GRIPE—A certain ANAHEIMER (a lady) doesn't like the way we've been praising the Chamber of Commerce and Ernie Moeller. She said so in so many words. The GAZETTEER is sorry indeed, if objections are taken to what is written here, But Ernie Moeller and his associates are doing a good job in boosting ANAHEIM. Mr. Moeller is the sparkplug behind the ANAHEIM Hallowe'en Festival. Under his guidance it has blossomed out into a top-flight event. It will soon have national recognition like the Mummer's Parade in Philly; Tournament of Roses and the Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
NEWSPRINT — With the increase of newsprint costs, the size of newspapers may soon shrink. It is no secret, but the increased production costs pinch where it hurts most—the exchequer.
SHORT STORY—A prominent ANAHEIMER with a rather high forehead recently attended a football game. His head of skin glistened under the bright arc lights. As he climbed the stairs to his seat, a happy-go-lucky chap saw that our hero had a bandaide on his bald head ... "Look!! Look, fellahs," the wag shouted, "he's got a hair sproutin' and he's got a hot house over it!" ... The truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. Over at North ANAHEIM (that's right, that's Fullerton) they're having a little mystery that goes something like the story in the third reader. You remember—"Who Shot Cock Robin?" ... The North ANAHEIM version is: "Who Took a Potshot at the Councilman?" ... One guess is about as good as another. No one knows

REMEMBER — Revenge is sweet, but a vengeful person never gained anything by getting even.
SoCal Chamber Meets Thursday
The Southern California council of the State Chamber of Commerce will hold a semi-annual meeting at the Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel, Thursday, October 26, Edward R. Valentine, regional vice-president, announced today.
"Keynote of the meeting," Valentine said, "will be the attempt of business, industrial, and agricultural leaders to analyze and foresee the impact on the Southern California economy of continued national war mobilization."
Nearly 400 business leaders from the 10 southern counties, Valentine said, will take part in the meeting.
The far-reaching economic effects of the Defense Production Act of 1950 will be explained by leading specialists in the various fields the act embraces.
What California industry may expect under this act in the way of priorities and allocations, prices and wages stabilization, settlement of labor disputes, and control of consumer and real estate credit will be covered.
