Or a bassarisk, if you'd rather. Most people that know what they are, call them ring tails, certainly more convenient. Fairbanks found the little feller, which barks like a dog, spits like a cat and chases mice like nobody's business, at the Oak Grove Ranger Station six weeks ago. It got loose, caused quite a search, then was recovered near the home of Fairbanks' brother-in-law, E. B. Maas, 414 W. C press. Nobody, not even a local zoo keeper, knew what is was until Anaheim Police Lt. E. Roger Sherman came to the rescue with a natural history book. Fairbanks says it could make a nice pet but he's afraid he may not be able to keep it in his trailer home. He'd consider an offer of $25. (Gazette photo by Bradley) IT WAS LIKE THIS OFFICER—Martins Brantz, 003 W. Center street, explains how it happened to Anahcim Police Officer Bob Plaisted after a co lision involving his car and one driven by Nellie Mae Webb, 140 W. Center street. Only dented fenlers resulted from the Broadway and Lemon street accident, and no citation was issued by the police. (Gazette photo by Bradley) Wounded Anaheimer (Continued from Page 1) they would have cigarettes," he said. And the other comforts denied men in the field—personal articles, writing materials, snacks for those who were able to eat. And this pattern was repeated all the way back through the series of aid stations and field hospitals and at the hospital in Pusan and in the big hospital back in Japan. Nor did it stop on the air way home. Landing points, the Pacific You can tell people at home about it. That will help us in our effort to get more blood to the battle areas more than anything else." The sergeant said she had made herself a deal. On top of that he vowed to contribute some of his own blood as soon as the doctors said he was able. Then he started to talk about the war. He landed in Korea shortly after the first of August with the second Division, moved north along the east coast of the country to Yongsan midway between Pu why we stayed in one place so long. "We found out later that lack of supplies explained a lot of the delay. They just weren't ready. Look what has happened since those first weeks." And how fast it has happened. "It looks good now, but it was almost a case of locking the door after the horse was gone." Do the soldiers feel that this is just a police action? "At first they did," the sergeant said. "Now they are trying to figure out where the next one will break out." And the other comforts denied men in the field—personal articles, writing materials, snacks for those who were able to eat. And this pattern was repeated all the way back through the series of aid stations and field hospitals and at the hospital in Pusan and in the big hospital back in Japan. Nor did it stop on the airway home. Landing points, the Pacific Islands, Hawaii, all had Red Cross workers staffing for incoming soldiers, the sergeant said. "A lot of the Red Cross people were women," he added, and much of what they saw wasn't pleasant. "We came back to Pusan and some of the guys were shot up pretty badly and were still bloody and torn. Those ladies didn't let that bother them. They went right ahead making us as comfortable as they could." "That's what I thought about lying there on the plane on the way home. That's why I want to do anything I can to help the Red Cross keep up the work." He told this story to Mrs. Kathryn Wheeler executive secretary of the Anaheim Red Cross chapter and asked her what he could do. "You can bolster our morale here by liking like that, Sergeant," Mrs. Wheeler said first. Then, with a smile added, "That letter there on the wall is the only note of appreciation we've received so far. That's why we framed it like that." Then she asked more seriously, "Did you see them using the blood that has been sent over?" Sergeant Taylor said he had. "That's where you can help us most right now." Mrs. Wheeler said. "You've seen blood save lives to get more blood to the battle areas more than anything else." The sergeant said she had made herself a deal. On top of that he vowed to contribute some of his own blood as soon as the doctors said he was able. Then he started to talk about the war. He landed in Korea shortly after the first of August with the second Division, moved north along the east coast of the country to Yongsan, midway between Pusan and Pohang. At that time the reds were exerting heavy pressure on the southern supply port. He got hit on the 15th—"about three in the afternoon," he recalled. Eighteen others were wounded in the same mortar barrage. Sergeant Taylor was hit by shrapnel which shattered the upper part of his left arm. He was back in Pusan on the 16th, his arm splinted and set. On the 17th he was back in Japan. His plane landed at Fairfield-Suisun airfield, near Sacramento, on the 28th. October 3 he came to Camp Pendleton. Friday he came home. Thirty days convalescent leave. As for the war and what US fighting men think of it, Sergeant Taylor said at first it was a pretty disgusted bunch of GI's that surveyed the Korean shore. "We looked at the country through field glasses when we sailed into Pusan harbor and the first thing anybody said was: What the hell would anybody want to fight over this place for?" "What ever it was, those reds meant business. We found that out in a hurry." A lot of us wondered what all the shield-up was after we got there—the added. We wondered... LEGAL NOTICES (Pub.
