Growth Falls Below Average
Growth of the White Temple Methodist church falls a third below par in comparison with the community growth during the last 20 years, despite an average increase of 10 members a month, according to statistics quoted by Dr. Owen M. Geer, pastor of the Bullerton Methodist church, at a meeting of 120 leaders, social, school and church, Wednesday. The meeting was under the direct night at the White Temple church. Of Rev. Frank Butterworth.
Second fact pointed out was that the church Sunday school average attendance 20 years ago was over 400, now it is less than 300, despite the rapid increase in community population.
To rectify the situation, the teachers are working out a plan for a new, more aggressive program for increasing attendance.
The third set of statistics put before the group concerned the income of the chuch from givers. It was found that the average per capita, per year is $33.00. This ranks the Methodist church as 43rd in the nation, per capita giving. Leading two churches on this score are the Free Methodist and the Seventh Day Adventist.
Dr Geer stressed the importance of small Fellowship groups for the purpose of sharing experiences. He also stressed the importance of longer training classes in churchmanship for new members.
