Defense Calls for 1522 Doctor Draft
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Defense Department called today or the drafting of 1522 physicians, dentists and veterinarians for the Army during November, December and January.
The total includes 922 physicians, 500 dentist's and 100 veterinarians.
The Department acted only four days after President Truman set in motion the machinery for the drafting of medical men. The first registration date is Oct. 16.
The Department’s announcement said the Navy and Air Force have indicated that they do not presently plan to make similar requests to selective service for the induction of the physicians and others.
Induction quotas listed for the Army follow: 300 doctors of medicine by November 15; 300 doctors of medicine, 300 doctors of dental surgery or doctors of medical dentistry, and 50 doctors of veterinary medicine by December 15; 322 medical doctors, 200 doctors of dental surgery or medical dentistry, and 50 doctors of veterinary medicine by January 15.
SAN BERNARDINO (AP)—With both legs shattered and one arm blown off, 17-year-old Donald Wallen was reported in serious condition today from an explosion yesterday in a silica mine near Victorville.
Deputy Sheriff Bud Waite said Wallen was helping operate a powder hammer, a device which tamps dynamite into the rocks. Sudden death occurred on August 3rd due to loan commitments before that date.
Govt. Cinche Home Mortgage
WASHINGTON (AP)
Government today ordered tolls on home mortgages effective Thursday.
The terms require no more than cash down ranging from $1 per car costing under $5000 to up to houses priced from Down payments for vehicles run from five to forty-five pts.
Mortgages will have been owed within two years except: if payment fails monthly payments on buildings cutting about five yeers prevailing pay-off limit private government-backaged alike.
The controls apply over two-family homes—ment projects, or store construction, for which conditions are being considered.
The controls aim at limiting the pace of homeowners from the present record to around 1,300,000 a year to "not exceed"800,000 in 1951.
So far as bank or other mortgagees concern control terms apply not those stale “moon on August 3” erased by loan commitment before that date.

Govt. Cinches Up Home Mortgages
WASHINGTON (UP)—The government today ordered tight controls on home mortgage credit effective Thursday.
The terms require non-veterans to make cash down payments ranging from 10 per cent on houses costing under $5000 to 30 per cent on houses priced from $24,250 up. Down payments for veterans will run from five to 45 per cent.
Mortgages will have to be paid within 20 years, with one exception: 25 years will be allowed to pay off on homes valued below $7000.
Raymond E. Foley, head of the Housing and Home Finance Agency (HHFA), said that will boost monthly payments on mortgages by cutting about five years off the prevailing pay-off limits for private and government-backed mortgages alike.
The controls apply only to one and two-family houses — not apartment projects, or store or factory construction, for which other regulations are being considered.
The controls are aimed at cutting the pace of home-building from the present record rate of 1,300,000 a year to "not more than 800,060" in 1951.
So far as bank or other private mortgages are concerned, the control terms apply not to existing houses but those started since “moon on August 3” and not covered by loan commitments made before that date.
The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the Government order tight controls on home mortgage credit effective Thursday.
