Arrangements Completed for Broadcast From Community Fair Tent October 27
Arrangements have now been completed with the American Broadcasting Company to originate their coast-to-coast broadcast "Surprise Package," staring Jay Stewart, from the main tent of the Community Fair on Friday afternoon, October 27, during the 27th Annual Hallowe'en Festival in Anaheim.
The broadcast will climax the Ladies Day program, which features a Pie and Cake Baking contest, sponsored by Pillsbury Mills. Miss Beverly Keidel, well known home economist and lecturer on the subject of food preparation, will be seen in her usual Philco Cooking school. The event co-sponsored by Pillsbury and Philco offers a Philco radio as the grand prize, with waffle bakers, toasters, silex coffee makers, electric kitchen clocks and other desirable home appliances as prizes.
Entrants in the Pie and Cake Baking contest must reside in Orange county and can enter only with use of official entry blanks which may be obtained at all Orange county food markets and at 1 p.m., and everyone is invited. Gentlemen this is an invitation to you too, as the ABC's program "Surprise Package" is an audience participation show for both men and women.
Santa Ana Church Announces Bazaar
Rev. Father C. J. Bradley, pastor of St. Anne's Catholic church in Santa Ana announces that plans are now complete for the annual parish bazaar. The affair this year will be a three-day Fall Festival and will be held on the school grounds, south Main street at Borchard, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 13, 14 and 15.
A feature of each day's program will be a special dinner appropriate to the day and served at moderate cost to enable the entire family to enjoy a fine home-cooked meal as part of their par-
ROMANIA BLASTS PRIVATE ENTERPRISE
VIENNA, Austria (F)—Private enterprise will be almost completely abolished in Romania by 1955 if the communist government's new five year plan is fulfilled.
Romanian newspapers recently listed the 11 objectives of the plan, which goes into effect next Jan. 1. One of the goals is that "State trading and cooperative movements will be expanded to include 80-95 per cent of the total volume of business exchange."

800 Expected at FFA Field Day
More than 800 ranchers, livestock men and agriculture students are expected to attend the seventh annual Future Farmers of America Field Day to be held Saturday, October 14, at Thomas R. Dempsey's Palomar Angus Ranch, near Pala, in San Diego county.
Eight counties and 56 schools will be represented in the event, which is sponsored annually by Bank of America, Young Farmers, and I-On-F Veterans.
The all-day affair begins at 9:30 a.m. with stock judging contests, according to Forest M. Berry, senior appraised from Bank of America, Los Angeles headquarters, who is general chairman of the event. Barbecue dinner will be served at noon, and livestock parade, showmanship contests, demonstrations, and presentations of awards to winners will be held in the afternoon.
Counties represented are San Diego, Imperial, Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara and Ventura.
A DOG'S LIFE
NORTH HOLLYWOOD (P) — John E. Higgins, 47, a machinist of Glendale, pleaded guilty to drunk driving, said his dog caused his car to weave.
Higgins said he was having trouble preparing for the annual parish bazaar. The affair this year will be a three-day Fall Festival and will be held on the school grounds, south Main street at Borchard, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 13, 14 and 15.
A feature of each day's program will be a special dinner appropriate to the day and served at moderate cost to enable the entire family to enjoy a fine home-cooked meal as part of their participation in the festival.
Friday's dinner of fish and French fries, all you can eat for 50 cents, will be served from 4 p.m., until 8 in the newly decorated school hall.
The bazaar proper will comprise the usual booths, games and contests with special emphasis on dolls, pottery, fancy work, cooked foods, baked goods, groceries, lams and novelties.
The regular weekly bingo session will be held in the school hall following the Friday evening dinner and will be repeated on Saturday and Sunday.
One of the innovations of this year's affair is the special purchase of three hundred of the famed "Story Book Dolls," which are being dressed in appropriate style by a committee of parish seamstresses whose aim is to gladden the hearts of 300 little girls on Christmas morning.
MUSIC CALLED 'EUROPE'S BASEBALL'
NEW YORK (P)—"Music is to Europe what baseball is to America," said H. Arthur Brown, conductor of the Tulsa (Okla.) Philharmonic, as he got off the plane the other day from Europe. Brown noted that when he was in Vienna, Salzburg, and Paris, he saw lines of people in front of auditoriums of some sort. These lines often began forming as early as 7 a.m.
"All these people are interested in the fine arts and will attend performances at great personal sacrifice," Brown says. "Barbers and cab drivers wouldn't discuss batting averages as in this country, but they were authorities on arias, legatos, and the arabesques and tour jets of the ballet."

A DOG'S LIFE
NORTH HOLLYWOOD (P) — John E. Higgins, 47, a machinist of Glendale, pleaded guilty to drank driving, said his dog caused his car to weave.
Higgins said he was having trouble quieting his pet terrier when officers arrested him.
"The dog didn't put that smell of liquor on your breath, did he?" asked Police Judge L. R. Reid as he imposed a $150 fine or 75 days in jail.
4-H Electric Project Set
The second 4-H club electricity project clinic will be held October 10 through October 12 at the University of California college of agriculture at Davis, under the direction of Frank Spurrier, specialist in agricultural extension with the California Extension Service.
Designed to familiarize 4-H club members with the various applications of electricity to farming, this electricity project will be actively supported by the Southern California Edison Company in the Orange county area.
A. G. Stephens, Edison Company power consultant in this area, will attend the clinic for training in first- and second-year electricity project work. Suggested material and demonstrations for later presentation to 4-H clubs will be discussed at the clinic.
