Surveying the new establishment are Mrs. D. Lum and co-owners Ben Lum and Yet Lin. Oriental Gift Shop Schedules Opening Tomorrow Anaheim gift hunters will have, as of tomorrow, the rich, appealingly different traffic of the Far East from which to make their selections as the Oriental Gift Shop, 331 E. Center st. opens its doors in its grand debut. Ben Lum, shop operator and brother of Yet Lin, owner of the Chung King Cafe, announces that his new shop will feature a large, comprehensive display of imported articles from China and the Orient. Almost all of the selections are handmade, says Ben Lum and are made from materials and by craftsmen available only in the oriental countries. The list of articles is long. It includes had-made scarfs, bags, framed and unframed tapestries wrought in silk and bearing feather-thread designs notable for their high natural colors. In addition there are genuine silk imported kimonos and pajamas, hand-painted china, rattan furniture, baskets and brass and copper ware. Brothers Ben Lum and Yet Lin will be co-partners in the Anaheim venture. Ben Lum, Seattle born, comes from that city where he operated a gift shop much similar to Anaheim Woman’s Mother Passes. Mrs. Oscar Soller, 705 N. Los Angeles st. is mourning the death of her mother, Mrs. Lena Cook, who died yesterday at the age of 66. Mrs. Cook resided at 322 Granada Ct., Ontario. In addition to Mrs. Solter, Mrs. Cook is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Fay Bartlett, Upland; Mrs. Vera Cattle, Mrs. Elmer Snyder, and Mrs. Dolly Burrell, all of Chino; one son, Merle Cook, Ukiah; and eight grandchildren to the new Center st. operation. Yet Lin was born in Hong Kong, China. Before coming to this country 20 years ago he absorbed enough of China’s culture to rank as an expert in selection of oriental object’s d’art. He is familiar with oriental markets, as well, thus assuring a steady influx of the best in gift shop stocks. Yet Lin, on his arrival in the United States, first settled in San Francisco. There he operated a restaurant. He came to Anaheim three years ago. The Oriental Gift Shop staff consists of Mrs. D. Lum and Mozy Lin, each versed in the intricacies of oriental art and more than willing to share that knowledge with Anaheim shoppers desirous of attaining the maximum in value and originality in their gift selections. Korean War (continued from Page 1) on the reported crossing and MacArthur’s surrender ultimatum. MacArthur’s surrender term were broadcast first at noon Sunday. AP correspondent Hal Boyle reported the South Korean Thin Division had smashed across the 38 border on the east coast 45 minutes before that. Boyle said the order to cross was given by Lt. Gen. Walton B Walker, U. S. Eighth Army commander, and was dropped to the South Koreans from a plane. AP correspondent Leif Erickson said the South Koreans Monday captured Yangyang, seven miles north of the border. A U. S. Eighth Army staff officer said the South Korean Capital Division was marching across the border on a road leading to Third Division positions. Despite the silence of top officers, there was no doubt that South Korean units were thrusting well into red Korea. B-29s smashed at Pyongyang again Monday, following up Sunday strikes at the capital by Navy carrier aircraft. Air Force pilots reported intensified aircraft fire over the city. There were no further reports of a possible buildup of North Korean air strength. Pilots Saturday reported sighting 22 replanes and observing hasty repairs on main airfields. These reports could be significant, since red Korea’s light air strength was reported wiped out early in the war. The planes come from Russia. The air spokesman said main B-29 raids hit along a line running roughly across to the east coast from Pyongyang. This was on the line where prisoners reported they reds would make a stand. The spokesman specific bomber missions might be sent close to red China’s Manchurian border but in general strikes were limited to the area starting 30 miles south of the border. He called this a comfortable distance. Red China has complained to the U.N. about alleged U.S.-Gazette photo by Bradley.) RETSOOB watch this paper for prizes West Germans (Continued from Page 1) Firing squads of armed police pounced on every small red gathering so fast that agitators didn't have time to distribute their leaflets of anti-western propaganda. Some 900 would-be rioters were tossed into jail, joining 500 others who had been arrested as a precaution on Saturday. The biggest fight of the day took place in Hamburg, where 16 policemen were injured fighting 3000 stone-throwing communists. It took only 60 policemen to suppress a mob of 400 at Hanover. Several policemen and agitators were injured and 35 reds were arrested. Cologne police broke up two attempted marches by 300 communists. They jailed 83. Fifty were arrested trying to demonstrate in Frankfurt, 30 in Brunswick, 23 in Oldenburg and 100 in Dortmund. The day's only successful rabotection appeared to be a temporary cutting of the telephone line of the government-owned railway. It was severed near the capital city of Bonn. Saboteurs—believed to be reds—escaped. The line was quickly restored.
