Warren Asks Loyalty Pledge By Legislature
SACRAMENTO (AP)—Governor Warren today advocated a loyalty pledge for all public employees and civil defense volunteers in California.
He proposed the oath of allegiance in submitting his preparedness program to the legislature shortly after it convened in special session.
The governor reiterated that an A-bomb attack on California is a possibility. "That's why, he said, 'it is imperative that we make plans for such an eventuality.'"
Urging renewal of the sabotage prevention act of World War II, he declared in his message to a joint session of both houses:
"I am of the opinion that so long as we are in conflict with Soviet Russia, we are in imminent danger of sapotage."
The legislature organized quickly. Assembly Speaker Sam L. Collins ((R-Fullerton) saw no reason why the work could not be finished in a week.
The governor's advocacy of the loyalty oath brightened chances for a quick session. His previous silence on the issue had threatened a legislative clash on a series of loyalty bills by individual members.

at the home where Jacquelyn was staying. Police guarding the front of the house rushed to the rear but the whistler had vanished.
"I'm so scared I don't know what to do," she said. I've lost 18 pounds already because of this thing.
'How can I get ready for my wedding when I'm so scared I can't sleep or eat? I'll have to have a policeman usher me up the aisle.'
Several hundred guests have been invited to the wedding.
Jacquelyn said she hopes the whistler won't be there but even as she said it, she recalled that in one of his threatening phone calls he told her mother:
"Don't forget, I'll be at that wedding."

Situated 1500 miles from the Tigress River, traveling oil well driller, Lloyd Morolf of 123 Kroeger st., Anaheim, helped drill the first well near Ankara, Turkey.
This is a small incident in the life of much-traveled Mr. Morolf who was drilling wells in Venezuela in 1929, again in 1939, then in Brazil in 1941. This latter time he took his family, Mrs. Morolf, Jack, Mary Ellen and Larry, with him.
In 1945 he was again assigned to Venezuela and then transferred to Paraguay from 1946 to '47.
Mr. Morolf returned to Anaheim Sunday, September 10, from a 10 month stay in Turkey. This being his fifth trip in foreign lands, his remarks on conditions are well qualified.
He states that the Turkish point of view is decidedly against Russia and Bulgaria and almost completely for the U.S.
An example of this enthusiasm is apparent in the approval shown for American-made items. If the U.S. stamp is on an article the quality is unquestioned, the Anahelder reports.
Communist movements in Turkey are almost nil, states Mr. Moroff.
His complaints center mostly around its food. Too much grease and too much goat and lamb meat are the cause of his most violent reactions against the Mediterranean country.
Mr. Morolf was sent over to develop a Turkish oil field. Oil production in Turkey is at minimum capacity.
On his return to the states Lloyd

out communist strongpoints, assault craft ferried heavy tanks into the bridgehead.
The tanks churned the tidal Han's mudflats and rumbled down roads leading to Seoul.
B-29s and fighter planes plastered communication lines within a 150 mile radius of Seoul, seeking to isolate the city.
Its liberation after nearly three months of communist occupation appeared at hand, possibly only a matter of hours.
But the reds apparently were not going to yield the city without a fight.
Speeding truck columns of red Koreans were coming north from the old southeast Korea beachhead to join in the defense of Seoul.
The northbounds reds were cutting through a hall of Allied air bombs and machinegun fire. Air observers said communists already were streaming into the city along a side road running southeast of Seoul.
Other red troops were reported fleeing northward from the city, toward the Parallel 38 boundary between red and republican Korea.

Morolf brought back five tapestries. These exotic bits of the East are handmade of natural Angora wool. They are woven to depict the beauties of mosques. Other trophies of his recent travels are Swiss Rolex watches, gally colored scarves from Instanbul, and an inlaid mother-of-pearl serving tray.
The traveling bug will not stay dormant long and Mr. Morolf does not seem to mind. Though yet too cautious to make a direct statement, he remarks that he may leave soon for still another foreign territory.

sonnel officer.
Learned from city engineer E. P. Hapgood that the planning commission, having completed the bulk of details on the rezoning proposition for the city, will be ready to submit the proposed zoning ordinance and accompanying recommendations "very soon now."
Hapgood said that individuals who registered protests to the proposed rezoning at recent public hearings have been consulted on their views and that some changes in the original calculations have been made.
Two public hearings before the planning commission have already been held. The third public hearing, after which the council takes steps to make the new zoning ordinance a law, will be held before the council on a date determined by that group.

Midway City sanitary district yesterday annexed an adjacent area of land, with a $2,000,000 assessed valuation of property, by approval of the county board of supervisors.
The annexation represented a move by subdivided areas of that section to get in position for sewerage service, following voter approval of the new Magnolia-Cannery trunk line of the Joint Outfall System, which will serve the western side of the county.
A petition for annexation, presented to the board, showed more than 75 per cent of the affected property owners favoring the annexation.
BOOZED BEES
BLAST BYSTADERS
LONDON, (AP) — Thousands of bees carried out low-level attacks on targets—customs men, passengers and just bystanders—at London airport yesterday.
But there were no casualties. The bees were drunk. They had gathered for one on the house when a passenger dropped a bottle of cognac.

Stock Market
NEW YORK (T)—A sharp drop in American Telephone capital stock rattled the entire market today.
A. T. & T. dropped nearly $3 a share to $149 before making stand. Heavyselling followed news that the directors had approved an increase in authorized stock to 45,000,000 shares from $35,000,000 and a new issue of convertible debentures not to exceed $435,000,-000.
Stockholdres will vote on the proposals November 15.
The news immediately raised the question whether A. T. & T. would be able to maintain its famous annual dividend in the event of huge addition to the 27,000,000 shares or so now outstanding. A portion of the presently authorized stock is reserved for holders of debentures who have the privilege of converting their holdings into stock.
A. T. & T. stock is considered one of the market's pivotal issues and a sharp decline would be enough to shake the entire price structure.
Losses elsewhere ranged to around a point before buying support appeared and lifted man/prices above the lows for the day.
Among the losers were U. S. Steel, Bethlehem Steel, General Motors, Chrysler, Studebaker, Goodrich, Montgomery Ward, Douglas Aircraft, Lockheed.
Trading stepped up rapidly when selling in A. T. & T.
