HARD AT WORK—Stanton Lions last week got started on construction of their new clubhouse on Chestnut st. Members of the above work brigade, like others to come, are pledged to donate at least 100 hours of work, or its equivalent in money, toward completion of the project.

Stanton Lions Break Ground for New Chestnut Street Club House
The Stanton Lions club broke the ground and started making forms for the molds of the foundation of their new clubhouse last week.
Located on Chestnut st., between Cerritos and Main st., it will be built of steel reinforced concrete blocks.
An attractive waiting room will lead into the main clubroom that features a large corner fire place.
Mr. Roy Allen, the building chairman, owns an ornamental brick yard on Stanton ave. He will have Vance Brown dig and bring down a load of special stone from Bishop for the fireplace.
Every member of the group has pledged himself to contribute 100 hours of labor or its equivalent in money or by paying someone to work for him.
The engineer in charge is Sidney M. Lowry and the architect is Alfred C. Bonney, both of Santa Ana. The adjoining lot will have a parking lot and a badminton court.
The members working were Harry Tabbatt, Lewis McBratney, Charles Rube, Roy Allen, Whitney Bell and Keith Clarson.

FJC VETERAN HOUSING OPEN
Due to the drop in enrollment of veteran students at Fullerton Junior college, the veteran's housing unit at the north side of the campus is now open for the housing of single male non-veteran students, according to an announcement made by Dean Robert Swenson.
Originally intended to house the families of married G.I. Bill students, the units will now be occupied by four male students each. Registration of veterans has dropped steadily since the war, only 89 now being enrolled at the college, the dean said.
Stanton
The Theodore Eckert property, 10431 S. Hanson ave., has two enormous trees in their back yard. The first part of July, 10,000 or more sparrows arrived in a body and lived in the box elder and large oak for two months. They left in unison, just as they arrived. Mrs. Marie Eckert says that several years ago the same incident took place.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reeder and their two small sons, Don and Dan, drove down from Bakersfield to see Mrs. May Reeder, Jack's mother, who is in the Orange County General hospital. She fell off her back porch, 10242 S. Hanson ave., two weeks ago and fractured her hip and hurt her arm. She will be in the hospital about two and a half months more.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mouldenhauer, 10631 S. Sycamore st., have named their baby daughter Laurel June. She was born at the Orange County hospital August 30, and weighed 5½ pounds.

Dayis Works With New Zealand Grass
Grass and clover seed from New Zealand are undergoing plot and strain trials at the Experiment Station, College of Agriculture, Davis, to determine if they are adaptable to California conditions.
The seed is a gift to the United States from the Federated Farmers of New Zealand.
