DISTRICT DEPUTY—Agnes Zinda, member of Anaheim Young Ladies Institute, has assumed duties as Southern District Deputy for Southern California Clubs. Her charge includes cities from Pomona to San Diego. Anaheim Woman Appointed YLI District Deputy Mrs. Agnes Zinda, who has been a prominent member of Young Ladies Institute since joining the organization in 1927, has been appointed Southern District Deputy, it was announced today by Mrs. Elsie Benner, president of the Anaheim Institute. During 1939 Mrs. Zinda served as vice president of YLI and in 1940 she was elected president. She has handled innumerable chairmanships during her term of membership and has been a vital force in the noted success of YLI business and social events. District to be handled by Mrs. Zinda extends from Pomona to San Diego with institutes in those two cities as well as in Fullerton, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Long Beach, San Pedro and two in Oceanside. Mrs. Zinda is the first Anaheim member to receive the honored appointment in more than nine years. She resides at 12262 Cerritos ave., in Anaheim. Mrs. Mary Wade, 10512 S. Stanton ave., was rushed to the Santa Ana Community hospital, last week-end. Her daughter, Mrs. H. W. Vigne, says she is improving. Missionary Speaks To County WCTU Vera Jane Campbell, who has served as a missionary in India, Jerusalem and Arabia for 65 years, presented an interesting report to members of Orange County Women's Christian Temperance Union at a meeting this week in Garden Grove Baptist church. The speaker expressed concern over the people in Arabia and said that conditions under which they were forced to live and the treatment they received were extremely bad. Miss Campbell, who is 84 years old, is an active member of the League and left by airplane, Monday, to attend the national convention in Denver, Colorado. Jennie Ray Thompson, state president from Los Angeles, also attended the meeting and spoke briefly on the work of the organization. Election of officers was an important item of business on the agenda with Mrs. Estella Harper of Garden Grove re-elected as president; Leola Holland of Santa Ana, vice president; Mrs. Letta Smith, secretary, and Mrs. Edith Vase, treasurer. Presidents of thirteen Orange county groups entered in the processional and several gave reports on their activities. An impressive memorial service was conducted for members who have died during the past year. Attending from Anaheim were Cora Marsh, president, Mellissa Hauswald, Mrs. Bessie Leep, Mrs. J. Elliott and Mrs. J. H. Daugherty. Mr. and Mrs. John Adkinson, 7232 E. Cerritos ave., were to leave Monday for a motor trip to Texiarcana, Tex., to visit John's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Adkinson. Dickle st., have returned from an extensive transcontinental trip to the New England coast with their sons Ozzie and Charles. On their northern route they visited Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Salt Lake City and Boston. Returning on a southern route they stopped in Cleveland, Ohio, Oil City, Pennsylvania, Lincoln, Nebraska, Anderson, Indiana, where they visited friends; Youngstown, Ohio, Lynn Creek, Missouri, Carlsbad Caverns, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Phoenix, Arizona. Commenting on the trip, the whole family agreed that they enjoyed the canyons most. Final stop on the trip was in Las Vegas, Nevada. Last Sunday the Royers entertained at dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thorne of Artesia. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Herndon and son of Corona, Miss Helen Jackson of New York City, Miss Ruth Thomas of Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Hennrich and daughter of Huntington Park, and Mr. and Mrs. Myrell O. Royer and daughters. Another occasion for a party occurred when the Royer's visited their families in Pumetum. DuBois of 7921 Liberty Lane, visited Mrs. DuBois' raid in Wisconsin recently for the time in 12 years. They returned this week after their seven year old son Henry who accompanied them on the trip. Highlight of the vacation we reunion at the family home Friendship, Wis. Gathered to celebrate the occasion were Mr. Mrs. P. F. Smith and Ma Smith, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Snr Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Rous, Attoy and Mrs. J. Reese Jones and Mayme Smith, all of Wisconsin. On behalf of the entire family Mr. Jones presented Mr. and DuBois with a silver tree on which were suspended 25 silver dolls Mrs. DuBois was a former teacher in the schools of Friendship Adams. Two older sons, Jack Dick were unable to accompany their parents on the trip. First Fall Meet For Beta Sigma Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma met at the home of Mrs. Essex David Monday evening, with members rested from their summer vacations and ready for busy fall season. President El Smith presided at the business meeting at which plans were made for the fall "Rush." Program chairman Louise Miller had all of the members present tell their summer experiences, some had colored films to show following the program the... Hawaiian Dancer Guest of Local Women at Padua Graceful movements of the hands and hips of an authentic Hawaiian dance were demonstrated for the Mexico Players of Padua Hills and their guests recently, when Mrs. H. N. Harrigan (Alice Beckley, of Honolulu and Maui) visited the "hill" as honored guest of Dora Gene Golden, Monrovia and Clare Cronenwett of Anaheim. Mrs. Harrigan is a descendant of Capt. George C. Beckley, an English sea captain, whose ship visited the islands in the 1700's, and the daughter of King Kamehaha. Mr. Harrigan and Duke Meyer, also in the party, attended the VFW convention in Chicago, and the trio will fly home Sunday, (September 17). Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Nicholson of 205 S. Citron st., have returned from a three week trip to Minnesota where they attended the graduation of their daughter, Mrs. Vivian McDonald. Mrs. McDonald graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree. Before returning to California they visited their son Ray Booth in Duluth, Minn., and another son in Marble, Minn. The reunion in Marble was a particularly eventful one as the Nicholsons arrived in time to see their grandson Donald before he left for service in the Navy. Other stops included Grand Rapids and Spooner, Wis. The trip was made by plane. A marriage license has been issued to Frank Winnstanley Southward and Margaret Ray Conrad, both of 6282 Lincoln Blvd., Anaheim. Duane Harvey, Wally Maas, Honored by VFW Two members of the Anaheim Veterans of Foreign Wars post who have been recalled to service were honored at a potluck dinner for the post and auxiliary members and their families Saturday night. Wally Maas will return to service in the U.S. Army and Duane Harvey will serve with the Navy. They will leave in two weeks. Mrs. Daniel was chairman of the dinner which was served in IOOF hall. Regular meeting of the Auxiliary was held last night with plans made for the September 25 meeting at which time Inspection Night will be observed. Anaheim Theatre Manager to Wed Fullerton Girl Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Easley of 301 W. Amerige ave., Fullerton have announced the engagement of their daughter, Donna Jean to Charles E. Krug of Orange. Mr. and Mrs. John O'Hearn and sons, Johnny and David, have recently moved into their new home at 8261 E. Ball rd. Dr. O'Hearn is an instructor at the City College, Lakewood. Anaheim Theatre Manager to Wed Fullerton Girl Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Easley of 301 W. Amerige ave., Fullerton have announced the engagement of their daughter, Donna Jean to Charles E. Krug of Orange. Mr. Krug is manager of the Anaheim theatre in this city and is the son of Mrs. Vera Krug of 1450 E. Walnut st., Orange. Wedding date has been set for Nov. 8. Miss Easley is a graduate of Fullerton High school and attended Fullerton Junior college. Her fiancee attended schools in Orange.
