Anaheim Gazette by JOHN S. NEUBAUER FOOTNOTES—Joel Newkirk is an ANAHEIM lad who is being reared in Fullerton. The 13-year-old schoolboy wants to become a baseball player so badly that he has even learned to be a lefthander. What more—he is ambidextrous... Another ballplayer who grew up west of ANAHEIM, Bob Ross is a southpaw by choice. A natural lefthander never thinks right (handed, that is)... Heavenly Helen Weir, might have been Miss ANAHEIM and the Queen of the Orange County Fair, but Mondy morning she'll be another ANAHEIM high co-ed again... Tech Sgt. James Heffron hasn't given up his baseball career. He will commute from Camp Cooke weekly (if he can get the required leaves) to play for J. F. Lemon's team. The little ANAHEIMER was the sparkplug of the team. PROFILES—ANAHEIM is fortunate indeed to have such an outstanding Christian leader as Dr Frank Butterworth to serve as an inspirational leader. A man with courage and determination, Dr. Butterworth's magnetic personality wins everyone's wholehearted cooperation in building a bigger, better and more prosperous ANAHEIM. GAZETTEER — Yes, it is possible for you to help the GAZETTEER serve you and ANAHEIM better. You can call the GAZETTEER's attention to newsworthy items that we miss. You can tell us about your friends and relatives... You can ask questions... If the GAZETTEER makes any statement with which you do not wholeheartedly approve, let us know... When we err, or overlook some important item, we want to know about it... A columnist's duty is to serve and inform his readers to the best of his ability. The GAZETTEER will not knowingly offend anyone or any group and will be as impartial as is humanly possible... The purpose of this column is to praise and not condemn. If the GAZETTEER can not say anything good about anyone, he won't say anything at all... It is only natural, then, that we solicit your whole-hearted cooperation in keeping us posted. Drop us a line or a card. Tell us about yourself or your friends. Everyone—no matter who he (or she) may be, likes to see his (or her) name in bold face type. The GAZETTEER is for and about ANAHEIMERS... Yes, do help the GAZETTEER serve ANAHEIM better by your whole-hearted cooperation. COMMENTARY — Most HEIMERS seem to agree there should be summer band concerts in the City park Theater. Some are rather nant with their remarks concerning a band. They agree that folks like the stirring rhythm band, but they can't understand why interest has been able to wane and the City band appear from the scene. There are many nostalgic comments. It doesn't take an old time remember those band concerts "back home" and how they used to gather at the park square on Saturday night friendly get together... Know, I kinda miss all that ANAHEIMER wrote. "We have our band concerts all the people in town used to out and have a downright time visiting with one another; remember how Ma used to us up, and how the old folks to gather around in huddle talk things over. I remember how we used to look forward those Saturday nights when growing up, because we'd meet our best gal at the bancert in the park". "You know, I kinda miss all that," one ANAHEIMER wrote. "We used have our band concerts, and the people in town used to turn around and have a downright good visiting with one another. I remember how Ma used to slick up, and how the old folks used gather around in huddles and things over. I remember, too, we used to look forward to the Saturday nights when I was growing up, because we'd always get our best gal at the bandconcert in the park". "Folks nowadays have lots of conveniences—cos, television, movies and stuff that there—but give me the old days, the happy carefree times when we used to have all-picnics, bandconcerts and a more happiness and contentment." I want to thank you for having brought back fond memories of my youth, of the days that used to be—days to be treasured in memory forever.' . . Thanks, Mister, for the kind words, but let's get together and work for a bigger and better ANAHEIM—an ANAHEIM with an ANAHEIM City band. REMEMBER — Every knock may be a boost but hardly as welcome as a compliment.
