'Double-Cross' Charges Fan Glowing Crete Romeo-Juliet Clan Romance
ATHENS, (P) — Bitter accusations of "double cross" fanned the feuding clan fires in Crete's Romeo and Juliet romance today.
Church and security authorities, drawn into the mountainers' clash as peacemakers, were charged by both sides with breaking the promises that lured the lovers here from their craggy hideout on Mount Ida.
George Petracogeorgi, liberal parliamentarian, claimed trickery in the marriage of his 20-year-old daughter Tassoula, to Constantine Kephalovannis, brash scion of a rival political family.
So did the brideless bridegroom about his interrupted honeymoon, from his prison cell where he is held on a charge of illegally carrying weapons. Earlier charges of abduction and seduction were dropped following his marriage to Tassoula.
The battle for Tassoula appeared to be entering its decisive legal stage. Constantine was to appear before a magistrate today to testify concerning the weapons charge against him.
Papa Petracogeorgi demanded an annulment of the marriage, which took place Friday in an out-of-the-way monastery on Crete. Eleven days earlier Constantine had spirited his bride away from Herakleion.
The unwilling father-in-law said arrangements made for a show-down here, at which Tassoula was the couple's arrival her bishop Spyridon of the Orthodox church fended and turned Tassoula over stanthe's brother, Manuel list (royalist) M. P., and Lt. Col. Manuel Sbokogendarmerie.

TRANSITION—Jerome D. Wallace, 73, an ANAHEIMER for 40 years died at his home last week. Dan'l Cupid has been busy. ANAHEIMERS who got marriage licenses last week include: John D. Cole and Mary Middleton. Lawrence Cook of Orange will wed Rita Nellesen of ANAHEIM. Malcom Benedict Smith, an ANAHEIMER, will take Marilyn Madison of Oakland as his bride. Other ANAHEIMERS who went license shopping last week included: Warren Stolz and Lita Ann Carner. LeRoy Penhall and Bonnie Lou Bennett. While the GAZETTEER may not be the first to congratulate these ANAHEIMERS, he isn't the last. And the stork was busy, too. A Fullerton child was born in ANAHEIM when Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Neu were blessed with a son. The Gordon Martins have a new son. Ralph Selaya is a proud papa. It's a boy. The Henry Kemp's have a daughter. The Richardsons — the Richard Richardsons—have a daughter, while Filiciano Balverde has an heir. They had William Gallienne's annual Twin Convention at Huntington Beach yesterday, but none of them could steal any of thunder that rightly belonged to the Watson twins of Buena Bark. One was born on Thursday and the other on Friday. Of course, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Watson couldn't enter the little fellows in this year's contest.
REMEMBER — The end may only be the beginning; so it never pays to give up.
